Assimilating satellite ocean-colour observations into oceanic ecosystem models

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2002
The effectiveness of ocean-colour data assimilation in providing robust biological-parameter estimates for basin-scale ecosystem models is investigated for a phytoplankton-zooplankton-nutrient model using North Atlantic satellite chlorophyll data.

Using Ocean Observing Systems to Promote Lifelong Ocean Education

Marine Technology Society Journal, 2005
The coming ocean observing system provides an unprecedented opportunity to change both the public perception of our ocean, and to inspire, captivate and motivate our children, our young adults and our peers to pursue careers allied with the ocean and to become stewards of our planet's ocean.

Campeche Ocean Observing System

2017
Since spring 2017, the coastal zone off Campeche coast has been equipped with different measuring technologies aiming to study a coastal ocean. Tide gauges, weather stations, CTD and ADCP moorings, as well as HF radars, together they form what it has been called Campeche Ocean Observing System (Observatorio Marino Campechano).

Coastal Ocean Observing Systems

2015
Coastal Ocean Observing Systems provides state-of-the-art scientific and technological knowledge in coastal ocean observing systems, along with guidance on establishing, restructuring, and improving similar systems. The book is intended to help oceanographers understand, identify, and recognize how oceanographic research feeds into the various designs ...

Oceanic thermohaline intrusions: observations

Progress in Oceanography, 2003
Intrusions are commonly observed in the upper, deep and coastal oceans, and are closely linked to lateral fluxes of heat, salt and momentum. This is a review of observations of intrusions and the results of comparisons of properties such as scale, slopes, microstructure activity, and fluxes with theoretical models.

OBSERVING OCEAN WAVES

1964
Abstract : After undertaking research to determine the influence of weather on replenishment and carrier operations, it became apparent that deficiencies in the data concerning ocean wave characteristics exist. Before any substantial progress in the study of replenishment and carrier operations can be made, improved and standardized ocean wave ...

Observation of ocean waves

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1983
The European Space Agency plans to launch an Earth Resources Satellite (ERS-1) in a few years’ time with a view to establishing an operational system of such satellites. It will carry two microwave devices giving information on waves: a precision altimeter and a synthetic aperture radar (SAR).

Observations Of Ocean Inhomogeneities

1991
Ocean stratification data are presented showing the spatial variability of sound velocity profiles. From an acoustic point of view the irregularities must be separated into features, which have to be treated as deterministic phenomena, and random structures in a statistically homogeneous stratification.
