Seafloor topography and tectonic elements of the Western Indian Ocean

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2005
The break–up of Gondwanaland and dispersal of several of its component continental fragments, which eventually formed the margins of the Indian Ocean, have produced an ocean basin of enormous variety, both in relief and in origin of seafloor features. The western half of the Indian Ocean alone contains every type of tectonic plate boundary, both active

On the effect of bottom topography on ocean currents

Deutsche Hydrographische Zeitschrift, 1960
Two types of streamline deflection for currents in a homogeneous ocean when crossing a submarine ridge or trough are compared, the Ekman type and the Sverdrup type. The significant difference between the two types may be explained by the relative importance of frictional forces as compared with the effect of the latitudinal variation of the Coriolis ...

Fluctuations of the Dynamic Topography in the Pacific Ocean

Journal of Physical Oceanography, 1975
Abstract The dynamic topography of the Pacific Ocean has been mapped and its mean annual and random variability has been investigated using approximately 66,600 hydrographic stations. Largest annual fluctuations are associated with the equatorial current system and are probably due to vertical displacements of the thermocline in response to the ...

A Global Mean Dynamic Ocean Topography

2019
The space-born geodetic temporal Mean Dynamic Topography (MDT) is obtained from the difference of altimetric Mean Sea Surface (MSS) $h$ and the geoid height $N$. With the geostrophic surface currents obtained from its gradient the MDT is an essential parameter when discribing the ocean dynamics.
