The post‐2002 global surface warming slowdown caused by the subtropical Southern Ocean heating acceleration

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2017
The warming rate of global mean surface temperature slowed down during 1998–2012. Previous studies pointed out role of increasing ocean heat uptake during this global warming slowdown, but its mechanism remains under discussion. Our numerical simulations,

Organic eutrophication increases resistance of the pulsating soft coral Xenia umbellata to warming [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2020
Recent research indicates that hard corals in a process that is termed phase shift are often replaced by soft corals in reefs. The simultaneous occurrence of local (i.e.

Covalent Organic Frameworks for Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction: Metal Integration Principles, Strategies and Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with metals have been recognized as versatile platforms for photocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2PRR). Herein, an overview of metal integration strategies for COFs is systematically summarized. Regulatory mechanisms and structure–activity relationships between metal integration and COF‐based CO2PRR are emphasized.

Connecting Warming Patterns of the Paleo‐Ocean to Our Future

open access: yesAGU Advances
The evolution of the spatial pattern of ocean surface warming affects global radiative feedback, yet different climate models provide varying estimates of future patterns.

The Southern Ocean as the climate's freight train – driving ongoing global warming under zero-emission scenarios with ACCESS-ESM1.5 [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences
Earth system model experiments presented here explore how the centennial response in the Southern Ocean can drive ongoing global warming even with zero CO2 emissions and declining atmospheric CO2 concentrations.

Impact of ocean model resolution on understanding the delayed warming of the Southern Ocean

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2020
Currently available historical climate change simulations indicate a relatively delayed Southern Ocean warming, particularly poleward of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) compared much of the rest of the globe.

Bio‐Inspired Magnetically Tunable Structural Colors from Elliptical Self‐Assembled Block Copolymer Microparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cephalopod‐inspired photonic microparticles with dynamic structural coloration are fabricated via confined self‐assembly of linear block copolymers into ellipsoids containing stacked lamellae. Embedded superparamagnetic nanoparticles enable rapid magnetic alignment, restoring vivid, angle‐dependent color.

Key Scientific Developments Since the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Provides an overview of peer-reviewed research published between July 2006 and June 2009 on fossil fuel emissions; ocean acidification; projected sea level rises; rates of ice and permafrost melting and thawing, and the lasting impacts of global ...

The effects of changing climate on faunal depth distributions determine winners and losers

open access: yes, 2014
Changing climate is predicted to impact all depths of the global oceans, yet projections of range shifts in marine faunal distributions in response to changing climate seldom evaluate potential shifts in depth distribution.

Evidence for external forcing on 20th‐century climate from combined ocean‐atmosphere warming patterns

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2012
Of the additional energy absorbed by the Earth over the past decades, by far the largest fraction is taken up by the oceans. Yet most attribution studies focus on the surface warming, and only few have used patterns of ocean warming to attribute changes ...
