Optimization of the mooring system of a floating wind turbine by developing a surrogate model-assisted evolutionary framework

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
In the design and optimization of Floating Wind Turbines (FWTs), there are challenges related to the large number of design parameters and the need for efficient and accurate calculation of turbine dynamic responses.

Extrinsic Limitations of Stealthy Hyperuniform Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Stealthy hyperuniform devices exhibit a scattering‐free angular region whose extent follows a simple quenching equation. Experimental measurements confirm this prediction but reveal quenching efficiencies far below theoretical expectations. Multiple scattering and finite‐size effects are quantified, establishing realistic performance limits for ...

Impact of Satellite Wind on Improving Simulation of the Upper Ocean Response to Tropical Cyclones

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Accurate modeling of the ocean response to tropical cyclones (TCs) requires high-quality wind fields to force ocean models. In this study, blended wind fields are generated using multi-source satellite data and the Climate Forecast System Reanalysis ...

Hybridization of Gap Plasmons and Grating‐Coupled Surface Plasmon Polaritons in Metal Nanoparticle Cluster Arrays on a Mirror

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Here we use a template‐assisted self‐assembly approach of metal colloids onto metal films to produce hybrid plasmonic metasurfaces that integrate nanoparticle‐on‐mirror cavities with periodic metal colloid arrays. The resulting coupling between gap plasmons and grating‐coupled surface plasmon polaritons enables programmable hybrid modes with tailored ...

High-resolution CFD modelling of Lillgrund Wind farm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We report on a fully dynamic simulation of Vattenfall’s Lillgrund offshore Wind Farm, with a focus on the wake effects of turbines on the performance of individual turbines, and of the farm as a whole. The model uses a dynamic representation of a wind ...

Air‐Sea Momentum Exchange With Explicit Wind‐Wave‐Current Coupling and Effects on Hurricane Structure and Impacts

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
Ocean surface waves play an essential role in momentum exchange between the atmosphere and ocean, which is especially important in tropical cyclones.

Molecular Editing Reveals a Bilobalide Chemotype that Attenuates Prolyl Endopeptidase (PREP)‐Linked Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Molecular editing of bilobalide uncovers BB56, a PREP‐engaging chemotype with enhanced anti‐inflammatory activity in microglia. Integrated CETSA‐MS, SAR, and pathway analyses link BB56 to attenuation of p38 MAPK/NF‐κB and NLRP3‐associated inflammatory signaling, highlighting bilobalide editing as a strategy for developing neuroinflammation‐modulating ...

How Does Air‐Sea Wave Interaction Affect Tropical Cyclone Intensity? An Atmosphere‐Wave‐Ocean Coupled Model Study Based on Super Typhoon Mangkhut (2018)

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, 2022
Capturing TC intensity change remains a great challenge for most state‐of‐the‐art operational forecasting systems. Recent studies found TC intensity forecasts are sensitive to three‐dimensional ocean dynamics and air‐sea interface processes beneath ...

Ocean winds for marine modelling

open access: yesAustralian Meteorological Magazine, 1992
A method is described for calculating ocean wind fields as required by wave and circulation models. Winds at the standard height of ten metres are derived from the Australian region primitive equation atmospheric model using a parametric boundary-layer model.
