CMEMS-Based Coastal Analyses: Conditioning, Coupling and Limits for Applications

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
Recent advances in numerical modeling, satellite data, and coastal processes, together with the rapid evolution of CMEMS products and the increasing pressures on coastal zones, suggest the timeliness of extending such products toward the coast.

Advances in Invertebrate Biohybrid Robotics: Leveraging Nature for Locomotion and Sensing in Engineered Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This review explores invertebrate biohybrid robots that integrate living organisms—such as insects, jellyfish, spiders, and sea slugs—into robotic systems for locomotion, sensing, and actuation. The advantages in efficiency and cost, discuss control, and power challenges are highlighted, and future considerations to guide the development of sustainable,

Geophysical Prospecting for the Detection of Buried and Shallow Submerged Archaeological Sites of Roman Period in the Lagoon of Venice (Italy)

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We present a study that combines several marine geophysical techniques to detect and map archaeological sites from the Roman period in the shallow waters of the Venice Lagoon, Italy. We employed marine electrical resistivity tomography (M‐ERT), a drone‐based unmanned surface vehicle (USV) multibeam sonar, and subbottom profiler technology to ...

Experimental and Theoretical Factors in CO2 Reduction on Pd‐Based Electrocatalysts and their Applicability for Integration with Data Science and High‐Throughput Experiments

open access: yesChemElectroChem, EarlyView.
This review showcases crucial factors of CO2 reduction on Pd‐based electrocatalysts on the basis of experimental and theoretical investigations and shows a perspective of utilization of the factors by data science and high‐throughput experiments. Alloying of Pd with another metal (M) can modulate electronic states of Pd, resulting in alteration of ...

Modern and ancient tidal sedimentary systems in the era of energy transition: Introduction to the special volume of The Depositional Record

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
This volume examines tidal sedimentary systems through 11 articles, spanning ancient and modern tidalites, technological advances and implications for human management. Highlighting contributions from Tidalites 2022 and beyond, it underscores tidalites' significance in sedimentology, environmental forecasting and energy transition, reflecting decades ...

Oceanography: The Past: Oceanography: The Present and Future

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1983
Oceanography is a young science, close to its historical roots, but it's maturing fast as “state‐of‐the‐art” technology and computer‐aided numerical modeling play an increasing role. Our ability to obtain, process, and analyze enormous volumes of data would stun an oceanographer of the 1930's.

Stratigraphy of diagenesis: Limestone–dolomite cycles in a mid‐ramp setting, Miocene Arcadia Formation, South Florida, USA

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
The data and interpretations of this study are used to test the proposal by Goldhammer et al. that a ‘stratigraphy of early diagenesis’ is operational in carbonate depositional systems. What this means is that distinct mineralogical and geochemical changes to rock and sediment occur associated with external controls, such as the rise and fall of sea ...

Using Saildrones to Validate Satellite-Derived Sea Surface Salinity and Sea Surface Temperature along the California/Baja Coast

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Traditional ways of validating satellite-derived sea surface temperature (SST) and sea surface salinity (SSS) products by comparing with buoy measurements, do not allow for evaluating the impact of mesoscale-to-submesoscale variability.

Equatorial oceanography

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, 1983
Interest and activity in the equatorial oceans (defined arbitrarily as that part of the oceans within ten degrees of the equator) have undergone a remarkable expansion in the last four years. The previous IUGG report (O'Brien, 1979) listed about one hundred references – the present one lists over two hundred and fifty.

Controls on carbonate island formation and evolution: South Joulter Cay, Great Bahama Bank

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
The evolution of South Joulter Cay occurs in three stages: linear ridges shaped by waves and longshore currents, arcuate ridges influenced by tidal currents and channels, and cuspate ridges formed by variable wind and wave directions. These processes are driven by climatic and oceanographic factors.
