On the nature of pressure‐induced coordination changes in silicate melts and glasses [PDF]
Progressive decreases in the Si‐O‐Si angles between corner‐shared silicate tetrahedra in glasses and melts with increasing pressure can lead to arrangements of oxygen atoms that can be described in terms of edge‐ or face‐shared octahedra.

Elucidating the crystal-chemistry of Jbel Rhassoul stevensite (Morocco) by advanced analytical techniques [PDF]
The composition of Rhassoul clay is controversial regarding the nature of the puremineral clay fraction which is claimed to be stevensite rather than saponite.

Surface magnetism in ZnO/Co3O4 mixtures [PDF]
We recently reported the observation of room temperature ferromagnetism in mixtures of ZnO and Co3O4 despite the diamagnetic and antiferromagnetic character of these oxides respectively.

First-principles calculations of the diffusion of atomic oxygen in nickel: thermal expansion contribution [PDF]
Within the framework of density functional theory using the projector augmented-wave (PAW) method, we present some energetic properties of atomic oxygen interstitials in crystalline Ni, i.e.

The identification and biogeochemical interpretation of fossil magnetotactic bacteria [PDF]
Magnetotactic bacteria, which most commonly live within the oxic-anoxic transition zone (OATZ) of aquatic environments, produce intracellular crystals of magnetic minerals, specifically magnetite or greigite.

Theory and experiment of the ESR of Co$^{2+}$ in Zn$_2$ % (OH)PO$_4$ and Mg$_2$(OH)AsO$_4$
Experiments of Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) were performed on Co$% ^{2+}$ substituting Zn$^{2+}$ or Mg$^{2+}$ in powder samples of Zn$_2$(OH)PO$_4$ and Mg$_2$(OH)AsO$_4$.

Coexistence of tetrahedral and octahedral-like sites in amorphous phase change materials
Chalcogenide alloys are materials of interest for optical recording and non-volatile memories. We perform ab-initio molecular dynamics simulations aiming at shading light onto the structure of amorphous Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST), the prototypical material in this ...
