Cadmium Oxide Octahedrons and Nanowires on the Micro-Octahedrons: A Simple Solvothermal Synthesis
Crystal Growth & Design, 2009Cadmium oxide (CdO) micro-octahedrons and nanowires were synthesized by a simple solvothermal process using ethanol as a solvent. The amount of NaOH and the synthesis temperature were the key parameters to control the phase and morphology of the as-synthesized products.

Synthesis of octahedron and truncated octahedron primary Mg2Si by controlling the Sb contents
CrystEngComm, 2013Octahedron and truncated octahedron primary Mg2Si were prepared by increasing the contents of Sb in an Al–Mg–Si melt. The structure and morphologies of primary Mg2Si were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM).

An investigation is made of some aspects of the geometry of repeating patterns in which various numbers of octahedra meet at each point, and its relevance to the structures of a number of ions, molecules, and crystals is examined. Structures discussed include the rutile and corundum structures. The relation between charge balance and purely geometrical

Tetrahedron and octahedron fractals
International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1998The current interest in fractals suggests the study of some examples in school geometry courses. The tetrahedron fractal and the octahedron fractal are worth investigating in detail.
