Assessment of Soil Erosion Over Six Decades in a Long‐Term Experiment Using Fallout 137Cs and RUSLE: A South American Case Study

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil erosion remains a major global concern affecting agricultural productivity and land sustainability. This study investigates the magnitude and variability of soil erosion in a long‐term experiment (LTE) established in 1963 in Colonia, Uruguay, aiming to compare the performance of the 137Cs tracer technique and the RUSLE model across ...

Pulse Generation by On‐Chip Dispersion Compensation at 8 µm Wavelength

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates on‐chip pulse generation at 8 μm$\mathrm{\mu}\mathrm{m}$ using chirped Bragg gratings in SiGe graded‐index photonic circuits to compensate the quadratic phase of quantum cascade laser frequency combs. With this approach pulses as short as 1.39 ps were produced, close to the transform limit, representing a key step toward compact,

Units of Octaves

open access: yesIndagationes Mathematicae (Proceedings), 1966
The set \(\{e_1\}\), \(i\in I\), \(I = \{0, a, b, c, a+b, a+c, b+c, a+b+c\}\) be an orthonormal base of the system of Cayley numbers. Here \(I\) is an additive group in which \(x+x=0\). The subset \(S\) of the Cayley numbers with integral coefficients is an integral domain.

Germanium‐Based Mid‐Infrared Integrated Photonics

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
The mid‐infrared (mid‐IR) spectral range is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum in which most of the molecules have vibrational and rotational resonances. Photonics integration in this wavelength range have thus seen a burst of interest in the recent years, mainly driven by applications related with the detection of chemical and biological ...

Noise, infrasound and ultrasound in two types of helicopters

open access: yesVojnotehnički Glasnik, 2000
The aim of work was to measure the entire noise level and to accomplish the octave analysis as well as to measure ultrasound and infrasound levels inside and around two types of helicopters. The results of measurement showed that the entire noise levels (

Octave‐Spanning, Deterministic Single Soliton Generation in 4H‐Silicon Carbide‐On‐Insulator Microring Resonators

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
The miniaturization of metrology and precision spectroscopy systems requires robust, turn‐key microcombs with broad bandwidth, low threshold, and high efficiency. Here, high‐Q, dispersion‐engineered microresonators in a high‐confinement nonlinear SiC platform, combined with waveguide‐enabled thermal management and laser cooling, enable deterministic ...

Octave bias in an absolute pitch identification task [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Octave errors are common within musicians, even among absolute pitch possessors. Overall, evidence shows pitch class and octave to be perceived in a different way, even if they are highly connected.

Optical‐to‐Microcomb Stability Transfer for Ultrastable Timing and Microwave/Millimeter‐Wave Generation

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a high‐fidelity stability transfer from an optical reference to a high‐repetition‐rate microcomb using a mode‐locked laser bridge. By employing electro‐optic sampling timing detection, femtosecond‐level synchronization and 10−18‐level fractional frequency stability are achieved.
