Mass Suppression in Octet Baryon Production [PDF]
There is a striking suppression of the cross section for production of octet baryons in $e^+ e ^-$ annihilation, as the mass of the produced hadron increases.

The phenomenology of scalar octets [PDF]
We discuss the phenomenology of colour scalar octets. Namely, we consider the discovery potential of scalar octets at LEP, FNAL and LHC. Scalar octets decay mainly into two gluons and new hadrons composed from scalar colour octets are rather long lived $(\Gamma \leq O(10)Kev)$.

Effect of Geometrical Parameters on the Mechanical Performance of Bamboo-Inspired Gradient Hollow-Strut Octet Lattice Structure Fabricated by Additive Manufacturing [PDF]
Hollow-strut metal lattice structures are currently attracting extensive attention due to their excellent mechanical performance. Inspired by the node structure of bamboo, this study aimed to investigate the mechanical performance of the gradient hollow ...

Constraint analysis for the interaction of the vector-meson octet with the baryon octet [PDF]
We describe a constraint analysis for the interaction of the vector-meson octet with the baryon octet. Applying Dirac's Hamiltonian method, we verify that the standard interaction in terms of two independent SU(3) structures is consistent at the classical level.

Bootstrap Theory of Octet Enhancement [PDF]
Recently it has become apparent that many violations of SU(3) follow an octet pattern. For example, (i) the Gell-Mann-Okubo sum rule(1,2) represents the main features of strong mass splittings among members of a supermultiplet, indicating that the splittings transform like the eighth component of an octet; (ii) the electromagnetic mass splittings ...

Flexural Behavior of Bidirectionally Graded Lattice
An experimental study of the bending behavior of bidirectional body‐centered cubic lattice beams is conducted in comparison to uniform and unidirectional counterparts of electron beam melted SS 316 L. Experimental results are used to develop and validate a finite element model which is subsequently used to conduct parametric studies to assess the ...

Architected Lattices with a Topological Transition
This article develops topological metamaterials showing multidirectional two‐step deformation under compression by embedding contact‐enabled topological mechanisms into lattice structures. Experiments on 3D‐printed 2D and 3D lattices and finite element simulations are conducted to demonstrate the working principle of the topological metamaterials.

How do students apply the octet rule and how do they justify this application?
In this paper we describe an intervention study on the application of the octet rule. This study was conducted at a German University with students in their first- and second undergraduate year.
