The Global Diversity of Sea Pens (Cnidaria: Octocorallia: Pennatulacea)

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Recent advances in deep-sea exploration technology coupled with an increase in worldwide biotic surveys, biological research, and underwater photography in shallow water marine regions such as coral reefs, has allowed for a relatively rapid expansion of our knowledge in the global diversity of many groups of marine organisms.

Further studies on Octocorallia

open access: yes, 1942
INTRODUCTION This paper is to be regarded as a continuation of my previous publication (Verseveldt, 1940 1)). Some three species, sufficient material of which for an anatomical examination was available, had then to remain undiscussed; they are: Semperina rubra Kö11., Anthothela macrocalyx (Nutt.) (= Suberia macrocalyx Nutting (1911) = Semperina ...

Identifying vulnerable marine ecosystems from imagery in the Uruguayan continental shelf

open access: yesMarine and Fishery Sciences
Scientific surveys employing remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) provide valuable imagery for identifying Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VMEs). However, there is presently no established framework for distinguishing VMEs from these images.

Notes on Alcyonacea (Octocorallia) from Tanzania

open access: yes, 1992
For the first time Alcyonacea from Tanzania are recorded, including two new species: Cladiella daphnae and Sinularia platylobata. Both these species are described and figured, while descriptions are also given of specimens of Lobophytum crassum von Marenzeller, 1886, L. rotundum Tixier-Durivault, 1957, and L. venustum, Tixier-Durivault, 1957.
