Clickable Microgel Inks Enable Spatioselective, Multi‐Stimuli Programmable Assembly of Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Clickable microgel inks enable direct ink writing of hydrogel architectures with intrinsic spatioselective and programmable multi‐responsiveness. By combining pH‐responsive and temperature‐responsive microgel building blocks through Diels‐Alder interparticle crosslinking, the assemblies exhibit controllable swelling and shape changes.

Redesigning octopus traps

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2014
Octopus, squids, lobsters, cuttlefish, etc., are traditionally caught with traps that are placed in the seabed for several months. Nowadays, the traps (Covos) used in the North of Portugal are made of a rigid structure of cast iron covered with a 152 to ...

Biomimetic Adaptive Hydrothermal Balance Fabric‐Based Dual‐Interface Solar Evaporator for Efficient and Stable Desalination

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study combines the biological structure of octopuses with the “3D structure” of spacer fabrics to fabricate a dual‐interface solar evaporator with adaptive hydrothermal balance. Water adaptation is achieved through the differentiated design of the upper and lower layers, and dynamic hydrothermal balance is realized by dynamically regulating the ...

The best defense is a good offense: Anti‐predator behavior of the common octopus (Octopus vulgaris) against conger eel attacks

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
We present the description of defensive behavior in wild Octopus vulgaris against conger eel (Conger conger) attacks based on three video sequences recorded by recreational SCUBA divers in the eastern Atlantic off the coast of Galicia (NW Spain) and in ...
