Ocular surface disease associated with immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy.
The ocular surface, 2021Immune-related adverse events (irAEs) is a term used to describe the various toxicities associated with immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) use. As this class of cancer immunotherapy grows, the diversity of documented irAEs also continues to expand. Ocular

Innate Immunity of the Ocular Surface and Ocular Surface Inflammatory Disorders
Cornea, 2008Ocular surface epithelial cells selectively respond to microbial components and induce limited inflammation, whereas immune competent cells such as macrophages can recognize various microbial components through Toll-like receptors (TLRs), induce inflammation, and, thereby, exclude microbes.

Vinblastine toxicity to the ocular surface
Anti-Cancer Drugs, 1996Local ocular exposure to antineoplastic drugs occurs either during regular use of some of these drugs in ophthalmology or accidentally during the general use of these drugs. Many ocular side effects have been described after such intentional or accidental exposures. We describe a case of accidental ocular trauma by vinblastine.

Innate Defense of the Ocular Surface
Eye & Contact Lens: Science & Clinical Practice, 2003The mucosal surface of the eye interfaces with the environment and can detect the presence of pathogens and irritants. The mucosal cells respond by up-regulating genes whose products either directly attack the contaminant or recruit leukocytes through the release of cytokines.

Management of ocular surface exposure
British Journal of Ophthalmology, 2012Appropriate management of ocular surface exposure depends on understanding the pathogenesis in terms of the adnexal tissues, epithelial surfaces, motor and sensory innervation, tear film and sometimes the treatment. A primary aim of the oculoplastic surgeon is to protect the ocular surface and preserve vision.
