Congenital Ocular Toxoplasmosis
Journal of the National Medical Association, 1983Congenital ocular toxoplasmosis is a significant cause of blindness. Retinochoroiditis is the most common finding, but other ocular manifestations include microphthalmus, nystagmus, strabismus, and ptosis. The serologic tests and lymphocyte stimulation test are the most useful aids in making the diagnosis.

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1984Of 60 attacks of ocular toxoplasmosis, in 37 (62%) no apparent macular problems were demonstrated on inspection, in seven (12%) active retinitis was evident within 5 degrees of the umbo, and in seven (12%) some evidence was shown of mild macular edema; severe edema, such as cystoid macular edema, was uncommon.

Fulminant Ocular Toxoplasmosis
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1981Seven patients had a destructive and disseminated form of toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis that resulted in loss of useful vision. All had been treated initially with corticosteroids alone. Active Toxoplasma infection, virulent strains of the organism, or both may have contributed to the fulminant course of the disease.
