The Oculocardiac Reflex: Its Evolution and Management
The Journal of craniofacial surgery (Print), 2020Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text Introduction: The oculocardiac reflex is initiated by a pressure stimulus to the orbit or periorbital structures causing in bradycardia transmitted via the trigeminal-vagus nerve reflex arc.

The Oculocardiac Reflex in Blepharoplasty Surgery
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1989The oculocardiac reflex (OCR), a previously undescribed phenomenon in aesthetic blepharoplasty surgery, involves intraoperative bradycardia exceeding 10 percent of the preoperative heart rate or any dysrhythmia during ocular manipulation. It is a trigeminal-vagal-mediated reflex arc.

Intravenous dexmedetomidine augments the oculocardiac reflex
Journal of American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, 2018We reported that premedication with nasal dexmedetomidine was associated with a more intense oculocardiac reflex (OCR). In this study we performed an intrasubject, intravenous comparison to test our hypothesis that this alpha-adrenergic agonist potentiates the trigemino-vagal reflex.OCR (greatest change heart rate/baseline heart rate) was prospectively

The oculocardiac reflex in aponeurotic blepharoptosis surgery
Journal of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery, 2013The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between the oculocardiac reflex (OCR) and blepharoptosis surgery for safe eyelid surgery. Fifty-four consecutive patients with bilateral aponeurotic blepharoptosis were enrolled in this study. Changes in electrocardiography (ECG) monitoring were recorded during surgery.

Diving Bradycardia is not Correlated to the Oculocardiac Reflex
International Journal of Sports Medicine, 1983Both facial immersion in cold water and pressure on the eyeball cause reflex bradycardia. These reflexes are called diving reflex and oculocardiac reflex, respectively. The latter is sometimes used in diving medicine to estimate the risk of severe diving bradycardia.

[The oculocardiac reflex in blepharoplasties].
Handchirurgie, Mikrochirurgie, plastische Chirurgie : Organ der Deutschsprachigen Arbeitsgemeinschaft fur Handchirurgie : Organ der Deutschsprachigen Arbeitsgemeinschaft fur Mikrochirurgie der Peripheren Nerven und Gefasse : Organ der V..., 2008The oculocardiac reflex (OCR) is a well-known phenomenon in ophthalmic surgery, but is rarely described in aesthetic blepharoplasty surgery. It was first mentioned in 1908 by Ascher and Dagnini. Since then, ophthalmologists and anaesthesiologists have regarded the onset of the oculocardiac reflex as a significant intraoperative problem, which is ...
