[Primary oculomotor nerve palsy due to mild head injury--report of two cases].

Two patients with primary oculomotor nerve palsy due to direct mild head injury are reported. They presented with internal ophthalmoplegia, dilated nonreactive pupils, and very mild disturbance in consciousness. Except for the persistent oculomotor nerve palsy, both the patients recovered fully within one week.

A 13-year-old boy, with no past medical history, was admitted after a car accident on October 29, 1989. On admission, he was alert. Physical examination revealed a bruise on the left frontal region, a fracture of right clavicula and right hemopneumothorax. He was treated with respirator due to dyspnea.

A 22-year-old female patient was admitted to the intensive care unit with subdural hematoma, brain edema, hemopneumothorax, and liver laceration after an in-vehicle traffic accident. Upon examining the patient, ptosis was perceived in the right eye; anisocoria and lack of light reflex were observed in the right eye.
