Nandrolone decanoate-induced hypogonadism in male rats: Dose- and time-dependent effects on pituitary and testicular hormonal functions. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiol Rep
Impacts of nandrolone decanoate (ND) were studied on pituitary‐testis axis in male rats, and compared with testosterone enanthate (TE). Results show ND‐ or TE‐induced hypogonadism coincided with inhibition of T biosynthesis, and suggest disruption of T negative feedback on pituitary. The testes showed histopathological defects in both ND and TE treated

A Scoping Review to Map Health Outcomes in Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction

open access: yesInternational Journal of Language &Communication Disorders, Volume 61, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Inducible laryngeal obstruction (ILO) is defined as an inappropriate laryngeal closure causing difficulty in breathing. Outcome measures can be used in ILO to monitor changes in health status over time. A comprehensive review of existing measures is important to understand what the targets of treatment and management are and whether

Chronological Changes in Urine Color and Serum Iron Levels After Deferoxamine Administration in Acute Iron Poisoning

open access: yesCase Reports in Medicine, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Acute iron poisoning is rare but potentially fatal. Deferoxamine (DFO) is the standard chelating agent and the appearance of “vin‐rose urine” has traditionally been considered a marker of effective chelation; however, its relationship with serum iron concentration over time remains unclear. A 17‐year‐old female patient presented with abdominal pain and

Effectiveness and Cost‐Effectiveness of Ecosystem‐Based Disaster Risk Reduction Interventions in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries: A Rapid Systematic Review

open access: yesCampbell Systematic Reviews, Volume 21, Issue 4, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Background: Climate change and widespread environmental degradation have increased the risk of natural hazards in recent decades. Hydrological, meteorological, and climatological disasters have become more frequent globally (Parry et al. 2007; Cavallo and Noy 2009; CRED 2022), affecting over 3.9 billion people since 2000 and causing losses ...

Translating evidence into action: overcoming barriers to gastric cancer prevention in Aotearoa

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Volume 55, Issue 5, Page 1252-1270, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Gastric cancer remains a significant public health issue in Aotearoa, disproportionately affecting Māori and Pacific populations. The marked ethnic inequity in cancer incidence and mortality, with Māori experiencing diagnosis at a younger age and higher rates than non‐Māori, underscores an urgent need for targeted interventions.

What Is the Need for and Access to Trauma Surgery in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries? A Scoping Review

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, Volume 49, Issue 7, Page 1928-1940, July 2025.
Trauma is a major source of morbidity and mortality globally, but low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs) are disproportionately affected by higher volumes of trauma and worse health outcomes. Despite this, there are limited data describing how many individuals in these regions need trauma surgery, and how many are able to access it.

First‐Line Genomic Profiling in Previously Untreated Advanced Solid Tumors: 1‐Year Follow‐Up of the FIRST‐Dx Study

open access: yesCancer Science, Volume 116, Issue 7, Page 1908-1919, July 2025.
In the 1‐year follow‐up data of the FIRST‐Dx study, the number of patients who received MBRT increased to 39 patients (22.7%) (Figure A and B) from our previous report (34 patients, 19.8%). The findings of this study imply that CGP testing before the standard of care for patients with advanced solid tumors could prove to be a clinically beneficial ...

Life in a Benthic Mirror‐World: Evidence for Deep‐Living Magnetotactic Bacteria in Hydrothermally Bottom‐Up Oxygenated Pacific Ridge Flank Sediments

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 9, 16 May 2025.
Abstract Low‐temperature hydrothermal fluids in crustal rocks of the Clarion‐Clipperton‐Zone (East Pacific) supply dissolved oxygen into the sediment from below. Diffusive upward transport led to formation of an inverse oxygen gradient zone in the overlying sediments.

The Role of the Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex in Ego Dissolution and Emotional Arousal During the Psychedelic State

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 46, Issue 5, 01 April 2025.
We analyzed and integrated data from two separate types of brain scans, fMRI and MEG, from 15 healthy human participants on the psychedelic drug LSD. Our work identified changes in the connectivity of a frontal brain region, which relate to two common experiences on LSD: emotional arousal and ego dissolution.

The Uncertainty of the Global Earth in the History of Progress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Is the shape of the Earth really a globe? Reading closely, the author of this voluminous paperback (first published as hardcover in 2015), historian David Wootton, does not take for granted the fact that the Earth is round or spherical.
