Parasites of the Silversides Odontesthes smitti and Odontesthes nigricans (Pisces: Atherinopsidae) from Argentinean Patagonia

open access: yesComparative Parasitology, 2011
Abstract Seventeen parasite species (1 microsporidean, 1 cestode, 5 digeneans, 6 nematodes, 2 acanthocephalans, and 2 copepods) were recovered from a total of 356 Odontesthes smitti and 125 Odontesthes nigricans (Atherinopsidae). Cross-amplification of microsatellites from the Atherinopsidae Odontesthes perugiae and Odontesthes argentinensis to Chilean silversides of the genus Odontesthes and Basilichthys

open access: yesGayana, 2011

Androgen synthesis in the silverside Odontesthes bonariensis

2008
Though it is generally accepted that steroids are able to affect the sex ratio in many teleost species, the role of androgens in the sex determination/differentiation process in fish species with temperature-dependent sex determination systems (TSD) has not been established.

Pejerrey Odontesthes bonariensis

2017
Pejerrey Odontesthes bonariensis was reared in the recirculation system for 1 year. The system consisted of two particle-trap equipped octagonal tanks (0.75 m3) for the rapid collection of feces and uneaten feed, a mechanical filter, a UV unit, a biological filter which provided nitrification, and a hollow-fiber oxygen injection system.

Female reproductive biology of the silverside Odontesthes regia

Fisheries Research, 2011
Abstract Histological observations of gonads, size frequency distribution of oocytes, seasonal changes in the gonadosomatic index and fecundity were used to assess the reproductive biology of females of the silverside Odontesthes regia from October 2006 to November 2007 in southern Chile. Six developmental stages were characterised as a function of

The role of amides in seminal cryopreservation of wild silverside, Odontesthes bonariensis

Cryobiology, 2016
Amides were tested as internal cryoprotectants for the preservation of wild silverside (Odontesthes bonariensis) sperm. The semen was diluted in modified Mounib's medium and cryopreserved by adding 2, 5, 8 or 11% of dimethyl acetamide (DMA), dimethyl formamide (DMF) or methyl formamide (MF).

The complete mitochondrial genome ofOdontesthessp. (Atheriniforms, Atherinopsidae)

Mitochondrial DNA, 2014
In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Odontesthes sp. has been studied first. The genome is 16,528 bp in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes and 1 putative control region. The mitochondrial genome of Odontesthes sp.
