Fine‐scale genetic structure, estuarine colonization and incipient speciation in the marine silverside fishOdontesthes argentinensis

Molecular Ecology, 2001
AbstractThe idengification of incipient ecological species represents an opportunity to investigate current evolutionary process where adaptive divergence and reproductive isolation are associated. In this study we analysed the genetic structure of marine and estuarine populations of the silverside fishOdontesthes argentinensisusing nine microsatellite

Artemia enriched with hydrolyzed yeast improves growth and stress resistance of marine pejerrey Odontesthes argentinensis larvae

Aquaculture, 2016
Abstract The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of two commercial yeast products (Y1 and Y2) that were administered via Artemia sp. enrichment on the survival, growth, histomorphometry, immunohistochemical and stress tolerance of pejerrey larvae. The larvae received enriched Artemia for 20 days.

Biologia reprodutiva do peixe-rei Odontesthes argentinensis (Valenciennes) (Atherinopsidae) da região marinha costeira do sul do Brasil [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira De Zoologia, 2006

Population Genetics of the SilversideOdontesthes argentinensis(Teleostei, Atherinopsidae): Evidence for Speciation in an Estuary of Southern Brazil

Copeia, 2000
Abstract Allozyme electrophoresis was used to investigate genetic population structure among 245 individuals of the silverside Odontesthes argentinensis sampled from localities in southern Brazil and Uruguay. Striking differences in allozyme frequencies and genetic variability were detected among localities.

De-novo assembly and transcriptome analysis of Odontesthes argentinensis gill tissue, with development of single sequence repeat markers

Gene Reports, 2018
Abstract One of the most common transitions observed in actinopterygian fishes were from marine to freshwater environments. This phenomenon could suggest that osmoregulatory mechanisms in this group are particularly adaptable to salinity changes. The silversides of genus Odontesthes are not the exception within Atherinomorpha, with several invasions ...

Microsatellite loci isolated from Odontesthes argentinensis and the O. perugiae species group and their use in other South American silverside fish

Molecular Ecology, 2000
Odontesthes (Atheriniformes: Atherinopsidae) is a diverse and widespread genus of silverside fish, containing between 15 and 22 recognized species distributed across marine, estuarine and freshwater environments of temperate South America (Dyer 1993). The marine-estuarine O.

Digestive and metabolic profile of the resident population of the silverside Odontesthes argentinensis from Mar Chiquita Coastal Lagoon (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

Journal of Comparative Physiology B
The knowledge about the occurrence and biochemical characteristics of key digestive enzymes is crucial for an enhanced understanding of the dietary ecophysiology of the species. On the other hand, integrative studies on digestive physiology and on tissue content of glycogen, glucose, lipid and protein in groups of ecological and economic importance are

Metabolic flexibility and seasonal physiological responses of the resident silverside Odontesthes argentinensis in a southwestern Atlantic coastal lagoon

Journal of Fish Biology
Abstract Seasonal fluctuations in temperature, salinity and food availability impose strong physiological demands on fishes inhabiting temperate estuaries. Here, we examine how the resident population of Odontesthes argentinensis from the Mar Chiquita Coastal Lagoon ...

Essential and non-essential elements in marine silverside Odontesthes argentinensis from southwestern Atlantic coast: Tissues bioaccumulation, biomagnification and public health risk assessment

Food and Chemical Toxicology
In order to assess the metal pollution in the southwestern Atlantic coast, levels of eleven metals: Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sr, and Zn and one metalloid: As in water and tissues of Odontesthes argentinensis from the Samborombón Bay (SB) and Partido de La Costa (PC) were examined.
