Odontogenic Cysts and Neoplasms
Surgical Pathology Clinics, 2017This article reviews a myriad of common and uncommon odontogenic cysts and tumors. The clinical presentation, gross and microscopic features, differential diagnosis, prognosis, and diagnostic pitfalls are addressed for inflammatory cysts (periapical cyst, mandibular infected buccal cyst/paradental cyst), developmental cysts (dentigerous, lateral ...

Lipopigment in odontogenic cysts
Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 1978Abstract.A study of 105 odontogenic cysts revealed the presence of pigmented cells in the cyst wall in 38% of the cases. The frequency of pigmented cells was higher in the inflammatory odontogenic cysts than in the developmental cysts. Although isolated pigmented cells were seen within the epithelial lining and cyst cavity, the larger collections were ...

AbstractTwo cases of glandular odontogenic cysts are reported. The unique histological features, eg, the intraepithelial glandular structure, papillary processes, and eosinophilic cuboidal and larger granular superficial cells are sufficient to warrant glandular odontogenic cyst as a distinct entity.

Abstract Odontogenic cysts and tumors are mandibular and maxillary lesions that occur across all patient demographics across age, sex, race, and social economic status, as altered remnants of dental development. They may be incidental findings from routine imaging in any office or found through workup for craniofacial surgery or injury.

Summary The clinical histories of six patients are described in whom seven odontogenic cysts recurred at the site of removal of the original cyst. All these cysts had an identical histological appearance in that the epithelium was keratinising and the cyst wall was thin and virtually free from inflammatory cell infiltrate.

Oral examination often reveals the presence of gingival or mucosal swelling. This swelling may be exostosis, cystic, hyperplastic or neoplastic tissue. This case report describes a diagnosis and surgical treatment of an odontogenic cyst. Odontogenic cysts can be classified depending on the stage in odontogenesis when cyst formation occurs.

Three previously unreported cases of botryoid odontogenic cyst, one of which recurred 9 years after initial surgical removal, are presented. The botryoid odontogenic cyst has a predilection for occurrence in the mandibular canine-premolar region and in persons over the age of 50 years. Periodic radiographic postoperative evaluations are recommended for
