Biomarkers involved in the proliferation of the odontogenic keratocyst, glandular odontogenic cyst and botryoid odontogenic cyst

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2022
Odontogenic cysts are a heterogeneous group of lesions with varied clinical behavior. To analyze the expression of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), Cyclin D1, and transcription factor SOX2 in the odontogenic epithelium evaluating the cell cycle control and cystic expansion. This was a cross-sectional study including 40 cases, 20 odontogenic ...

Glandular odontogenic cyst

Head & Neck, 1992
AbstractTwo cases of glandular odontogenic cysts are reported. The unique histological features, eg, the intraepithelial glandular structure, papillary processes, and eosinophilic cuboidal and larger granular superficial cells are sufficient to warrant glandular odontogenic cyst as a distinct entity.

Odontogenic Cysts and Tumors

Annals of Plastic Surgery, 2019
Abstract Odontogenic cysts and tumors are mandibular and maxillary lesions that occur across all patient demographics across age, sex, race, and social economic status, as altered remnants of dental development. They may be incidental findings from routine imaging in any office or found through workup for craniofacial surgery or injury.

Recurring odontogenic cysts

British Journal of Oral Surgery, 1967
Summary The clinical histories of six patients are described in whom seven odontogenic cysts recurred at the site of removal of the original cyst. All these cysts had an identical histological appearance in that the epithelium was keratinising and the cyst wall was thin and virtually free from inflammatory cell infiltrate.

p63 expression in odontogenic cysts

International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2005
A total of 123 cases of odontogenic cysts, distributed as follows: 30 follicular (FC), 35 radicular (RC), 53 keratocysts, 1 glandular odontogenic and 4 calcifying odontogenic cysts, were analysed by immunohistochemistry for expression of p63, a component of p53 protein family. In RCs p63 positivity was not only in basal and parabasal layers but also in

Calretinin Expression in Odontogenic Cysts

Journal of Endodontics, 2003
Calretinin is a calcium-binding protein with a possible role as a calcium buffer, calcium-sensor, or regulator of apoptosis. Calretinin is expressed in neural tissue, is a specific marker of mesothelial cells, and has been demonstrated in the odontogenic epithelium during odontogenesis in rat molar tooth germs.

Botryoid odontogenic cyst

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1986
Three previously unreported cases of botryoid odontogenic cyst, one of which recurred 9 years after initial surgical removal, are presented. The botryoid odontogenic cyst has a predilection for occurrence in the mandibular canine-premolar region and in persons over the age of 50 years. Periodic radiographic postoperative evaluations are recommended for

Fibrinolytic activity in odontogenic cysts

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1971
Abstract The fibrinolytic activity of odontogenic cysts as measured by a semiquantitative histochemical method proved higher than in normal oral mucosa. Since tissue plasminogen activator is considered to play an important role in local hemostasis and wound healing, the finding of high fibrinolytic activity in the cysts may help to explain the ...

Peripheral calcifying odontogenic cyst

Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 2002
AbstractBackground: Calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) is a rare lesion representing about 1% of jaw cysts. It may occur in a central (intraosseous) or peripheral (extraosseous) location.Method: A case of peripheral COC located on the gingiva, appearing as a painless, circumscribed, pink nodule has been reported. Results: Peripheral, in contrast to ...
