Odontogenic Cysts and Tumors

Annals of Plastic Surgery, 2019
Abstract Odontogenic cysts and tumors are mandibular and maxillary lesions that occur across all patient demographics across age, sex, race, and social economic status, as altered remnants of dental development. They may be incidental findings from routine imaging in any office or found through workup for craniofacial surgery or injury.

Odontogenic Cysts

Der Pathologe, 2013
Odontogenic cysts form a group of diseases whose origin is linked to the persistence of epithelium resulting from the complex embryonic development of the teeth and jaws within the connective tissue. Inflammatory reactions of the surrounding area of the persisting odontogenic epithelium accompany epithelium proliferation, which leads to the development

Glandular odontogenic cyst

Head & Neck, 1992
AbstractTwo cases of glandular odontogenic cysts are reported. The unique histological features, eg, the intraepithelial glandular structure, papillary processes, and eosinophilic cuboidal and larger granular superficial cells are sufficient to warrant glandular odontogenic cyst as a distinct entity.

Recurring odontogenic cysts

British Journal of Oral Surgery, 1967
Summary The clinical histories of six patients are described in whom seven odontogenic cysts recurred at the site of removal of the original cyst. All these cysts had an identical histological appearance in that the epithelium was keratinising and the cyst wall was thin and virtually free from inflammatory cell infiltrate.

Calcifying odontogenic cysts

Journal of Stomatology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2017
Calcifying odontogenic cysts (COC) represent 0.3-0.8% of all odontogenic cysts. We describe the finding and the treatment of a COC in a 67-year-old female. An asymptomatic well-limited radioluscent mandibular lesion was fortuitously discovered on the panoramic X-ray in the periapical region of teeth No. 33 and 34.

The polymorphous odontogenic cyst

Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 1996
Over the years there have been sporadic reports of unusual cystic lesions of the jaws, not readily classified under conventional headings but which have been variously diagnosed as median‐mandibular. glandular, sialo‐odontogenic or botryoid odontogenic cyst.

Mucoepidermoid odontogenic cyst

International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1991
This unusual cystic lesion was previously described as a lesion that has features of both botryoid odontogenic cyst and mucoepidermoid tumor and later was named as glandular odontogenic cyst. An additional case is reported and its clinicopathologic features described. The name "mucoepidermoid odontogenic cyst" is proposed.

Botryoid odontogenic cyst

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1986
Three previously unreported cases of botryoid odontogenic cyst, one of which recurred 9 years after initial surgical removal, are presented. The botryoid odontogenic cyst has a predilection for occurrence in the mandibular canine-premolar region and in persons over the age of 50 years. Periodic radiographic postoperative evaluations are recommended for

Fibrinolytic activity in odontogenic cysts

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1971
Abstract The fibrinolytic activity of odontogenic cysts as measured by a semiquantitative histochemical method proved higher than in normal oral mucosa. Since tissue plasminogen activator is considered to play an important role in local hemostasis and wound healing, the finding of high fibrinolytic activity in the cysts may help to explain the ...

Lateral Periodontal Cysts, Botryoid Odontogenic Cysts, and Glandular Odontogenic Cysts

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America, 1991
SUMMARY The lateral periodontal cyst is a well-recognized developmental odontogenic lesion with a characteristic clinical and histologic presentation. This lesion can be separated from inflammatory odontogenic cysts and the odontogenic keratocyst, which may likewise occur on the lateral root surface of a tooth, by histopathologic assessment ...
