Peripheral Odontogenic Keratocyst

Journal of Periodontology, 2005
Background: An odontogenic keratocyst can develop at virtually any site in the jaws and is of concern because of its aggressive clinical behavior. It represents 3% to 12% of all odontogenic cysts. This paper describes the rare peripheral presentation of an odontogenic keratocyst localized to the maxillary anterior gingiva and its differential diagnosis.

The odontogenic keratocyst

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1982
The keratinizing odontogenic cyst was first described as a distinct entity by Shear’ in 1960. Philipson2 originally applied the name “odontogenic keratocyst” to this entity, which has been reported to account for 7 to 8% of all odontogenic cysts.3 In 1972, Donoff et al4 reported 16 keratocysts found in a series of 342 cysts of the jaws (Table 1 ...

Peripheral odontogenic keratocyst

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1994
The gingival cyst of the adult exhibits an epithelial lining that is essentially the same as the lateral periodontal cyst. Although the gingival cyst of the adult exhibits some morphologic variability, its lining is generally considered to be nonkeratinized.

Genetic Changes in Sporadic Keratocystic Odontogenic Tumors (Odontogenic Keratocysts)

Journal of Dental Research, 2007
Little is known about the genetic background of keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOT, odontogenic keratocysts). Our aim was to characterize genomic aberrations in sporadic KCOT using cDNA-expression arrays and array-comparative genomic hybridization. For cDNA-expression arrays, 10 KCOT specimens and 20 fetal tooth germs were studied.

Odontogenic keratocyst

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, 1998
Odontogenic keratocysts comprise approximately eight percent of all jaw cysts and have a significant recurrence rate. Following a review of the literature, the treatment of two patients with such cysts is described.

ODONTOGENIC KERATOCYST

Odontogenic Keratocysts (OKC) are benign, intra-osseous tumors of odontogenic origin lined with parakeratinized stratified squamous epithelium. OKC's etiopathogenesis is unknown, but numerous hypotheses exist. According to various theories, OKCs originate from the residual dental lamina, basal cells, or even tissue responses to inflammation or trauma ...

A pigmented odontogenic keratocyst

British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1985
A pigmented odontogenic keratocyst arising in a white Caucasian female is reported. Melanocytes in the basal cell layer were identified by light and electron microscopy.

Odontogenic keratocysts: clinical features

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America, 2003
Frequency data for any particular lesion are not reliable indicators of their incidence and are often merely pointers that vary from institution to institution, reflecting the range of material seen in them. In a sample of 2616 jaw cysts diagnosed over a period of 32 years in the department in which the author worked, 292 (11.2%) were odontogenic ...
