PTCH1 isoforms in odontogenic keratocysts
Oral Oncology, 2009Odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) is an aggressive benign odontogenic neoplasm associated with PTCH1 alteration. PTCH1 has several isoforms generated by use of different first exon (1b, 1d and 1e). These isoforms code for proteins with different functions, expression profiles and transcriptional regulation.

The odontogenic keratocyst has been well documented and extensively studied. It is of particular interest because of its high recurrence rate and aggressive nature. The material for this study consisted of 70 cases of odontogenic keratocysts in predominantly ethnic Chinese patients who were treated from 1981 to 1996.

Most of the odontogenic keratocysts show an indolent behaviour like non-neoplastic lesions. For this reason, the odontogenic keratocyst was reclassified within the odontogenic cysts category in the WHO 2017 classification. Some odontogenic keratocysts may contain satellite cysts or solid squamoid islands within their wall.

Familial odontogenic keratocysts
International Journal of Oral Surgery, 1985Familial odontogenic keratocysts are described in this report. The Case 1 patient, who has 3 sisters, developed odontogenic keratocysts. The 2 younger sisters (Cases 2 and 3) also had odontogenic keratocysts, although the elder sister did not have any odontogenic cysts.

The odontogenic keratocyst — an approach to treatment
International Journal of Oral Surgery, 1974Abstract The use of preoperative tests and the recognition of the many clinical faces of the odontogenic keratocyst will undoubtedly improve future operative results. Adequate design of a first definitive operation will still further reduce the incidence of recurrence and of soft tissue spread. In order for that operation to be definitive a realistic
