Outcomes of Odontoid Process Fracture Surgery
Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja, 2023Background. Odontoid fractures are found in two age groups. In younger patients, they occur following traffic accidents, falls from a height and during sports. In older patients with poor bone quality, they are usually caused by falls from one’s own height. Most fractures are stable and do not require surgical treatment.

The odontoid process was once thought to be a displaced body of the atlas but is now believed to have separated from the anterior part of the atlas between the sixth and seventh week of gestation and to have migrated caudally to fuse with the body of the axis.

Pseudomalignant osteoblastoma of the odontoid process
European Spine Journal, 2018The anterior elements of the spine, particularly the odontoid processes, are a rare location for osteoblastomas. Pseudomalignant osteoblastomas are themselves rare histologic types and are also extremely rare in this location. Most osteoblastomas are Enneking stage 2 lesions; less frequently, they can be more aggressive with extra-capsular extension ...

Agenesis of the Odontoid Process
Radiology, 1956Failure of ossification of the odontoid process of the second cervical vertebra is a rare developmental anomaly which may be asymptomatic for many years. As a result of more thorough roentgenologic examinations, the condition has been noted with increasing frequency since its original description by Roberts in 1933 (1).

Surgical treatment of neglected C2 odontoid process fracture with anterior atlantoaxial dislocation
British Journal of Neurosurgery, 2020We report a case of the atlantoaxial (C1–2) deformity secondary to a neglected C2 odontoid fracture that was successfully treated with 3-stage operation performed in one session.

Osteomyelitis of the Odontoid Process
Journal of Spinal Disorders, 1988Pyogenic osteomyelitis of the odontoid process is a rare condition requiring a high index of suspicion for diagnosis. The three cases presented illustrate that patients with severe neck pain, aggravated by rotation, and persistent fever without apparent source should be studied carefully to exclude infection of the C1-C2 area.
