Dysplastic enamel in odontomas

A series of odontomas was studied by light microscopy, with special emphasis on abnormal enamel in these lesions. The findings were compared to those in amelogenesis imperfecta and in other conditions in which abnormal enamel is found. It was concluded that dysplastic enamel exhibits a number of appearances which are described in this article.

Odontomas and Their Pathological Sequels

Sixty-five odontomas diagnosed among 21,609 patients at a clinic of oral surgery during one decade were examined. Clinical and radiographic characteristics were registered as well as pathological sequels. The majority, 44 (68%), were compound odontomas and 20 (31%) were complex.

A melanotic ameloblastic odontoma

Abstract A benign maxillary tumor arising from odontogenic epithelium has been described. The origin of the melanin within the tumor and the relationship of this rare lesion to other pigmented intraosseous tumors of the jaws has been discussed.

Compound odontoma in a dog

A compound odontoma was diagnosed in the mandible of a 6-month-old dog. Histologically the tumor consisted primarily of mesenchymal tissue resembling dental pulp, odontoblasts, and areas of dentin. Smaller numbers of ameloblasts were associated with minimal enamel production.
