Effects of a Pleasant Natural Odor on Mood: No Influence of Age

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2016
Certain fragrances significantly influence affective and cognitive states in humans as shown not only in the laboratory but also in natural outdoor settings. The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of age on the relationship between

Unilateral resection of the anterior medial temporal lobe impairs odor identification and valence perception

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2016
The anterior medial temporal lobe (TL), including the amygdala, has been implicated in olfactory processing, e.g. coding for intensity and valence, and seems also involved in memory.

The Effect of Color Intensity and Appropriateness On Color-Induced Odor Enhancement

open access: yes, 1999
Coloring solutions has been shown to increase perceived odor intensity. In Experiment 1, subjects rated the odor intensity of red strawberry and green mint solutions that had four levels of color intensity. Ratings of strawberry odor peaked at the medium

Acetoacetates Derived From Vegetable Oils: A Platform for Tailor‐Made Vinylogous Urethane Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A renewable vegetable oil is converted into acetoacetate‐functionalized precursors for the preparation of catalyst‐free vinylogous urethane foams. Room‐temperature foaming with n‐pentane generates lightweight cellular materials, while the choice of amine enables control over foam structure and mechanical properties.

Primacy coding facilitates effective odor discrimination when receptor sensitivities are tuned.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2019
The olfactory system faces the difficult task of identifying an enormous variety of odors independent of their intensity. Primacy coding, where the odor identity is encoded by the receptor types that respond earliest, might provide a compact and ...

Comparison of Odor Intensity between Nylon and Polyester [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The purpose of this study was to compare fabrics made from nylon and polyester fibers in odor intensity following wear against the underarm. Fabrics were sewn into the underarm region of a t-shirt and odor intensity was assessed using a trained sensory ...
