OFDM for Optical Access

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2015
This tutorial discusses the principles and characteristic features of orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) in next generation optical access networks. The advances of recent years and the future challenges are discussed.

Channel Estimation for OFDM

IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials, 2014
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been widely adopted in modern wireless communication systems due to its robustness against the frequency selectivity of wireless channels. For coherent detection, channel estimation is essential for receiver design.

Gbit/s Radios @ 60GHz: To OFDM or Not to OFDM?

2008 IEEE 10th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications, 2008
The discussion on what is the most appropriate air interface for multiple Gbit/s radios @ 60GHz concentrates around the question: to OFDM or not to OFDM? This paper brings the arguments for two candidate modulation techniques, both exploiting frequency domain processing, focusing on the trade-off between performance and implementation cost and power ...

Performance of Turbo coded wireless link for SISO-OFDM, SIMO-OFDM, MISO-OFDM and MIMO-OFDM system

14th International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT 2011), 2011
In this paper, performance of a Turbo coded OFDM wireless link is evaluated in the presence of Rayleigh fading for SISO, SIMO, MISO and MIMO system. Data are encoded using turbo encoder then modulated by QPSK or 16 QAM or 64 QAM and further encoded using STBC, and the encoded data are split into n streams which are modulated by OFDM and simultaneously ...

Frequency synchronization in OFDM

2004 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2004
We present an OFDM frequency synchronization scheme. The scheme uses periodic OFDM symbols, similar to the algorithms proposed previously by Morelli and Mengali (1999) and Schmidl and Cox (1997). The proposed scheme attains considerably higher accuracy than the scheme by Schmidl and Cox requiring a similar computational load.

Phaseless pilots for OFDM

2015 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS), 2015
PAPR reduction and efficient channel estimation are one of the main challenges for multicarrier systems. Common approaches use pilot sequences to estimate the channel at the receiver and to compensate the PAPR at the transmitter. But these approaches need full knowledge of the pilots at the receiver.

On the DWT- and WPT-OFDM versus FFT-OFDM

Exhibition, 2009
We demonstrate simulation approaches for wavelet based OFDM, particularly in DWT and WPT-OFDM as alternative substitutions for Fourier based OFDM. We begin by constructing the models of the inverse and forward transforms, which can be flexible for substitutions in an OFDM system. We explain in detail each model and study the BER performance.

N-continuous OFDM

IEEE Communications Letters, 2009
In this letter we report a new OFDM signalling format characterized by a precoder that renders the emitted signal's phase and amplitude continuous. It achieves superior out-of- band power characteristics at the price of a slightly reduced receiver sensitivity.

Correlatively coded OFDM

IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2006
A class of correlative codes is proposed to significantly improve the spectral performance of the rectangularly pulsed orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) signal with or without cyclic prefix or zero padding. It is analytically shown that the correlatively coded OFDM signal can achieve very high spectral efficiency while yielding an ...
