The theory of fiber grating array OFDR-FS

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
A demodulation method for a quasi-distributed sensor based on an original interrogating system for concatenated low reflective Fiber Grating is proposed. The system is based on Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometer technology for which a commercial device has been extended to a wavelength-tunable device. This interrogation system has the advantage

OTDR and OFDR for distributed multi-parameter sensing

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
The drive for high spatial resolution (millimeters) distributed fiber sensors has renewed the interest in optical frequency domain reflectrometry (OFDR) systems. Because millimeters equivalent spatial resolution in optical time domain reflectrometry (OTDR) systems would require a data acquisition card with a bandwidth of 10 GHz and a sampling rate of ...

Distributed Measurement Based on Tapered FBG with OFDR

2018 10th International Conference on Measuring Technology and Mechatronics Automation (ICMTMA), 2018
This paper presents a new approach of simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain using tapered fiber Bragg grating (TFBG) based on optical frequency-domain reflectomery (OFDR). This combination allows us to detect the peak wavelength and spectral width of the TFBG by distributed measuring the reflection peak at each location of the TFBG with ...

Monitoring of an high temperature superconductor magnet by means of OFDR

Optical Fiber Sensors Conference 2020 Special Edition, 2021
The cool-down and powering of a high temperature superconductor mag- net have been monitored by means of optical frequency domain reflectometry. The optical fibers have been integrated in the structure to sense thermal perturbations and deformations.

Improvement of strain resolution by deep learning in an OFDR system

Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science 2023 (FiO, LS), 2023
A deep learning approach to improving strain resolution in OFDR systems is proposed, where a resolution of 1.1 µє (standard deviation) on a 140 m-fiber with a spatial resolution of 4 mm is experimentally achieved.

Experimental and theoretical investigations of coherent OFDR with semiconductor laser sources

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1994
Experimental and theoretical investigations of coherent optical-frequency-domain reflectometry using semiconductor laser sources are presented. Good agreement was found between the analysis of the signal-to-noise ratio due to the phase noise and the experimental results. The sensitivity limit due to the quantum noise is also described.

Real part determination OFDR with digital spatial filtering

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1994
This letter describes a method to suppress undesired reflections in an optical fiber signature measurement. The designed mathematical convolution algorithm in the frequency domain works simply and only makes use of the reflection complex-baseband frequency-response data.

Single-mode distributed temperature sensing using OFDR

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
Distributed temperature sensing (DTS) using Raman-OFDR is not limited by non-linear effects or low duty cycles in long single-mode fibres. It shows full spatial and temperature resolution at a range of 30km. The availability of hydrogen resistant fibres favours single-mode DTS in applications with chemical load such as oil and gas production.

Distributed audio recording using OFDR with double interrogation

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
We introduce a phase sensitive, dynamic and long range fiber-optic sensing system with fully distributed audio recording capabilities. The proposed system implements a recently developed OFDR design, which is based on double interrogation of a sensing fiber with equally-spaced discrete reflectors.

Jaggedness free C-OFDR for optical components characterization

Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference, 2002
High resolution and high sensitivity optical components characterization was performed with a jaggedness free coherent optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) with multi-electrode DFB laser. The fading noise was reduced to less than 1 dB by using a double optical frequency sweep, improving the accuracy of insertion loss measurements ...
