Compressor Off-Design Operation
2004This chapter contains a methodical description and comparison of the five regulation modes: variable speed, suction throttling, adjustable inlet guide vanes, adjustable diffuser vanes and cooled bypassing. Two more topics are discussed. First, there is the test deducted dimensionless performance curve, showing work input factor versus exit flow ...

Pump Operation at Off-Design Conditions
1998Theoretically, as long as the NPSH available is greater than the required NPSH, a centrifugal pump is capable of operating over a very wide range of capacities. As explained earlier, the exact operating capacity is determined by the intersection of the pump head-capacity curve with the system-head curve.

Off-Design Performance of a Single-Stage Transonic Turbine
Journal of Turbomachinery, 1998This paper presents results of rig testing of a transonic, single-stage turbine at off-design conditions. Mapping of the 3.4 pressure ratio, 1.9 stage loading turbine ranged from 70 through 120 percent of design speed and 75 to 125 percent of design pressure ratio.

Off-design performance of hypersonic waveriders
Journal of Aircraft, 1990Waveriders are being considered more and more as potential aerospace vehicles. There are several questions, however, regarding these configurations that must be answered before they can be considered viable designs. The most significant problems are related to aerothermal heating, propulsion integration, and off-design performance.

Propeller modeling approaches for off–design operative conditions
Ocean Engineering, 2019In adverse situations, such as maneuvering and motion in waves, severe variations of the propeller inflow may be experienced, resulting in an increase of propeller thrust and torque and in the generation of in-plane loads. This may cause undesired hull-vibratory loads, stress of the propulsive system and even affect somehow the ship dynamic response ...

Off-Design Performance of Gas Turbines
2020Design-point calculations fix the operating conditions under which the engine will normally operate. However, gas turbines, like other internal combustion engines, operate outside their design operating conditions for long periods of time, and the performance of the engine under these conditions, known as off-design performance, is of vital importance.

The Off-Design Analysis of Axial-Flow Compressors
Journal of Engineering for Power, 1967This paper describes in some detail the methods used for generation of a computer program for analyzing the off-design performance of axial compressors. The purpose of the study was to predict such axial-compressor characteristics as pressure rise and efficiency as a junction of mass flow and rotor speed when only the mechanical geometry of the annulus

Thermal behavior of heat exchangers in off-design conditions
Heat Recovery Systems and CHP, 1989Abstract An analytical method has been developed to predict the thermal behavior of an exchanger when a deviation occurs between the design point and the actual working conditions. As long as the P R , P ν curves of a particular exchanger are available, the method makes it possible to estimate the exchanger characteristic parameters at the ...
