Scalable low‐cost seabed landers: the missing link for sustained, integrated, long‐term observations in dynamic shallow seas

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Seabed landers, when equipped with a range of biotic and abiotic sensors, offer a non‐invasive and cost‐effective solution for ecosystem‐scale monitoring of Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs) and Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs) in dynamic shallow seas.

Quantifying Migratory Bat Movements in Central Europe Across Seasons and Years Using a Vertical‐Looking Radar

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Vertical‐looking radar provides a first multi‐year analysis of migratory bat phenology in Europe. Bat activity was lowest in winter, increased from spring, and peaked in summer, with similar timing of pre‐ and post‐maternity migrations across years.

Multi‐Platform Deployments of Low‐Cost Devices for Cetacean Passive Acoustic Monitoring

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Recent advances in affordable, user‐friendly devices offer new opportunities to overcome cost constraints of underwater passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) and expand acoustic data collection. In this study, we deployed low‐cost acoustic recorders and underwater cameras across a range of platforms in the Western Mediterranean, including fishing gear ...

High‐Resolution Satellite Imagery Reveals Landscape‐Scale Benthic Habitat Changes in a Turbid Coral Reef

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
High‐resolution satellite imagery and landscape metrics revealed a 77% decline in coral‐dominated habitats at Abrolhos Bank between 2010 and 2024, accompanied by macroalgal and zoanthid expansion. Spatial reorganisation indicates increasing fragmentation, homogenisation and loss of reef structural complexity.

Offshore Companies

open access: yes, 2018
I have chosen this topic in my thesis, because in my opinion, offshore companies still play a major role in the economy. In the first half of my thesis, I discuss tax avoidance in general.

Renewable Resource Curse Hypothesis: Could Renewable Resources Foster Sustainable Development?

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explores whether the resource curse hypothesis applies to renewable energy by introducing a novel metric of renewable resource rent. Using a panel dataset of 46 countries (2010–2022), we define renewable rent as the product of electricity generation and the gap between industrial electricity price and levelized cost (LCOE).

Opportunities for Australia Amid China's Carbon‐Neutral Transition: Input–Output Approach With Analysis of Australian Renewable Potential

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A major transformation in China's energy mix is underway as the country pursues carbon neutrality by 2060, posing significant structural challenges for Australia as a major exporter of carbon‐intensive resources. This study examines the economic impacts of China's decarbonisation on Australia by applying static and dynamic input–output (IO ...

Stakeholder Governance of the Energy‐Biodiversity Nexus in the Renewable Energy Sector: Pathways to Achieve SDGs in the MENA Region

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This systematic review examines stakeholder roles in managing biodiversity within renewable‐energy projects across the MENA region, a highly climate‐vulnerable region yet pursuing rapid energy transition toward achieving SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy). The focus is on regulatory bodies and sector companies as primary actors.

The Myth of Decarbonized Oil: Technological Fixes, Climate Delay, and the Politics of Low‐Carbon Fossil Fuels

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The idea of “decarbonized oil” has become increasingly visible in climate, energy, and corporate transition debates as oil and gas actors seek to reconcile continued fossil fuel production with net‐zero commitments. This article offers a critical narrative review of the concept, asking what political work the idea of decarbonized oil performs ...
