Hybrid Inertial–Centrifugal Gas–Liquid Separator: CFD‐Driven Optimization Using Coupled Discrete Phase and Wall‐Film Modeling With Response Surface Methodology

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Efficient removal of liquid aerosols from compressed gas streams is essential in chemical and energy processes. Conventional separators relying on a single mechanism (inertial or centrifugal) struggle to capture both fine and coarse droplets simultaneously.

ON CHAOTIC BEHAVIOR OF A FIXED OFFSHORE STRUCTURE

open access: yesInternational Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2009
In this paper we analyze the qualitative behavior of a fixed offshore oil platform under sea action perturbation (flows and tides), which is modeled by an inverted rigid pendulum with an elastic articulation at sea surface. We study their bifurcation properties provided by analytical framework and investigate their response to small oscillations ...

Description of large, well‐preserved Enchodus specimens from the Bearpaw Formation of Alberta, Canada

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Fishes of the genus Enchodus were abundant and cosmopolitan in the Late Cretaceous, but are primarily known from isolated remains in Canada. Four well‐preserved fish skulls were recovered in recent years from ammolite mines sampling the Bearpaw Formation of Southern Alberta, and are here referred to Enchodus petrosus Cope, 1874.

Epidemiological Survey and Genomic Insights Into Ostreid Herpesvirus 1 Transmission in the Blood Clam Anadara broughtonii in China (2019–2025)

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Seven‐year surveillance reveals a cold‐adapted OsHV‐1 lineage in blood clams, with disease onset at 13°C—3–5°C lower than in oysters—and identifies asymptomatic carriers and facility effluent as key transmission routes. ABSTRACT Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV‐1) poses a major threat to bivalve aquaculture, but its impact on blood clams (Anadara ...

Hull Performance Assessment and Comparison of Ship-Shaped and Cylindrical FPSOs With Regards To: Stability, Sea-Keeping, Mooring and Riser Loads In Shallow Water

open access: yesInternational Journal of Maritime Technology, 2017
Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading “FPSO” have become a popular choice since 1980s for marginal and fast-track developments where subsea pipeline is not an economic or feasible solution for export.

On intermediate-scale open-sea experiments on floating offshore structures : feasibility and application on a spar support for offshore wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Experimental investigation of floating structures represents the most direct way for achieving their dynamic identification and it is particularly valuable for relatively new concepts, such as floating supports for offshore wind turbines, in order to ...

Scanning Parametric Sediment Echosounder as Tool for Underwater Archaeological Prospection

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Underwater cultural heritage 3D prospection techniques, especially for remains that are partly buried in the ground, are only very rarely available and often can only be applied with considerable technical effort. To overcome this limitation, we evaluate a methodological adaption of widely used and available single channel parametric sediment ...

Evidence for adaptive explanations of semelparity in animals

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Semelparity, the reproductive strategy of reproducing once, is widespread but uncommon in animals. Classes of models to explain the evolution of semelparity are based either on age structure and mortality schedules – demographic models in which high post‐reproductive mortality risk favours high reproductive effort and semelparity results from ...

The Reliability of Offshore Jacket Platforms Based on Bayesian Calibration

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The safety of offshore structures is a key topic in developing offshore oil and gas and offshore wind energy. Due to the harsh offshore environment and costly offshore field tests, offshore field trials to validate the theoretical models for offshore ...
