Wind Stress in the Coastal Zone: Observations from a Buoy in Southwestern Norway

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
Several studies have focused on the investigation of the wind stress in open ocean conditions where coastal processes were negligible. However, the direction and magnitude of the wind stress vector in coastal areas are still not fully known due to the ...

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Implementation of a sigma coordinate system in PALM-Sigma v1.0 (based on PALM v21.10) for LES study of the marine atmospheric boundary layer [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
In large-eddy simulation studies of the marine atmospheric boundary layer, wind-wave interactions are often oversimplified using wall-stress models parameterized by roughness length, overlooking the complex coupling dynamics, especially under wind-wave ...

The Gut Commensal Butyricimonas Virosa Modulates Gut Microbiota‐Dependent Thiamine Metabolism and Attenuates Mouse Steatotic Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that dietary stachyose enriches Butyricimonas virosa, effectively attenuating metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Mechanistically, B. virosa enhances gut thiamine monophosphate synthesis, which elevates hepatic thiamine pyrophosphate levels.
