Wind lidars within Dutch offshore wind farms
2023The growing number of wind farms in the Dutch part of the North Sea [1] offers the necessity, as well as the opportunity, to measure the meteorological conditions at these locations. Wind lidars are deployed on the TenneT substations within those wind farms, to continuously measure the wind conditions.

Wind-wave-wake interactions in offshore wind farms
2023Offshore wind farms are exposed to a dynamic environment where the interactions between wind and waves modify wind resources. By extracting energy from the flow, wind farms alter these interactions and traditional wind resource assessment usually simplifies or ignores the interactions between wind and waves.

Cost Reduction Prospects for Offshore Wind Farms
Wind Engineering, 2004The economics of offshore wind farms are presently less favorable than for onshore wind energy. Consequently there is a strong need for significant cost reductions in order to become competitive. About 70% of the electricity cost of offshore wind farms is determined by the initial investment costs, which mainly consist of the wind turbines ...

2016
This chapter presents some of the main configurations and technologies that are being used or considered for offshore wind farm electrical collection. It introduces the industry's current practice for design and implementation. Wind turbine array layouts and electrical collectors are designed on a site-specific basis to achieve a good balance between ...

Decommissioning of Offshore Wind Farms
2018After a useful life of 20 to 25 years of existing offshore wind farms, the decommissioning will be a challenging task. In this context, an optimized planning of decommissioning enables savings of energy costs. Due to the lack of sufficient empirical data about decommissioning of offshore wind farms, simulation techniques represent a suitable analysis ...

Reap the wild wind [offshore wind farm]
IEEE Spectrum, 2002The worlds largest offshore wind farm is being built at Horns Rev (Reef) in the often turbulent seas off Denmark. The 80 towers in 20 km/sup 2/ of sea will be capable of generating 160 MW of power. Elsam expects Horns Rev to make 600 GWh of electricity a year, 2% of the country's consumption. This paper discusses the construction of the wind farm.

Optimal Siting of Offshore Wind Farms
2014The goal of this study is finding the best location for constructing an offshore wind farm with respect to investment and operation costs and technical limitations. Wind speed, sea depth and distance between shore and wind farm are three major factors that affect the optimal solution.
