Hox Gene Variation Drives Morphological Specialization of Humpback Grouper Cromileptes altivelis

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Cromileptes altivelis exhibits a distinctive “sunken head and humpback” morphology, formed through cranial remodeling. Genetic analyses identified unique amino acid variants in Hoxa7a and Hoxa10b, with functional tests confirming their role in enhancing osteoblast activity and driving cranial remodeling.

Offshore wind farms in Greece

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Focusing on recent legislative developments, the licensing system, and the fundamental timeline for project development, this survey offers an overview of the present regulatory framework guiding the development of offshore wind farms in Greece. With regards to the demands of alternative energy provisions, Greece’s spatial planning for renewable energy

Modeling the effects of seasonal weather and site conditions on wind turbine failure modes

open access: yes, 2013
It is important that the impact of the offshore environment on wind turbine reliability is reduced significantly due to the importance of offshore wind deployment to global energy targets.

Macau as Method: Recombinant Urbanism in Post‐Socialist China

open access: yesAsia Pacific Viewpoint, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In ‘Asia as Method’, Chen Kuan‐Hsing argues for the value of an indigenous inter‐Asian approach to analysing the effects of European imperialism on the countries and citizens of Asia. This article mobilises both Chen's inter‐Asian referencing strategy and the city‐state of Macau to explore Macau's role in China's engagements with global ...

Analysis of offshore wind turbine operation & maintenance using a novel time domain meteo-ocean modeling approach

open access: yes, 2012
This paper presents a novel approach to repair modeling using a time domain Auto-Regressive model to represent meteo-ocean site conditions. The short term hourly correlations, medium term access windows of periods up to days and the annual distibution of

Cost and losses associated with offshore wind farm collection networks which centralise the turbine power electronic converters

open access: yes, 2013
Costs and losses have been calculated for several different network topologies, which centralise the turbine power electronic converters, in order to improve access for maintenance.

The collective application of shorebird tracking data to conservation

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Addressing urgent conservation issues, such as the drastic declines of North American migratory birds, requires creative, evidence‐based, efficient, and collaborative approaches. The abundance of over 50% of monitored North American shorebird populations has declined by over 50% since 1980. To address these declines, we developed a partnership

Hybrid AC/DC Collection and HVDC Transmission Topology for Large-scale Offshore Wind Farms

open access: yesCSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems
Conventional offshore wind integration systems use 33kV or 66kV AC cables to collect wind energy and employ high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission technology to deliver wind power to onshore grids.
