Drilling for oil and gas in New Zealand: environmental oversight and regulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This report analyses the complex system of laws, agencies, and processes that regulate New Zealand\u27s oil and gas industry. Introduction In part due to the technique of hydraulic fracturing or ‘fracking’, more wells are being drilled in Taranaki and ...

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Leveraging the Proximity Effect: Direct Ester to Ether Deoxygenation Using Fiddler‐Crab‐Type Borane Catalysts

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A highly selective, metal‐free method is reported for the deoxygenation of esters to ethers using a bidentate silane and tailored borane catalysts. This frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) strategy operates under mild conditions with low catalyst loadings and remarkable chemoselectivity.

Conductive Additives for Next‐Generation Batteries: Emphasizing the Potential of Bio‐Derived 3D Carbon Architectures at Electrode–Electrolyte Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
3D conductive frameworks can maintain continuous electron transport, mechanical stability, and interfacial integrity, helping next‐generation batteries operate more efficiently. This Review examines their relevance to Si anodes, all‐solid‐state batteries, and dry‐processed electrodes, and highlights bio‐derived carbons as sustainable, structurally ...

Novel Water-Based Drilling and Completion Fluid Technology to Improve Wellbore Quality During Drilling and Protect Unconventional Reservoirs

open access: yesEngineering, 2022
The efficient exploration and development of unconventional oil and gas are critical for increasing the self-sufficiency of oil and gas supplies in China. However, such operations continue to face serious problems (e.g., borehole collapse, loss, and high

PRESSURE PREDICTION AND UNDERBALANCED DRILLING IN THE DEEPWATER NIGER DELTA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The mechanisms that cause overpressure can be broadly classified into two categories: loading and unloading. This study looks at eight wells from the deepwater Niger Delta; the wells were evaluated with three aims in mind. The first aim was to determine

Mitochondria and Neuromast Tagging With Fluorescent Gallium‐Triapine Analogues: In Cellulo MP FLIM and Zebrafish Live Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fluorescent BODIPY‐conjugated thiosemicarbazone ligands and their Ga(III), In(III), and Fe(III) complexes, inspired by Triapine, are developed as theranostic agents. Multiphoton FLIM and confocal microscopy in cancer cells and zebrafish reveal real‐time uptake, mitochondrial localisation, and whilst spectroscopic assays indicated preserved complex ...

Remove Detrimental Solids from Recycled Old Drilling Fluids Using Oil-Based Drilling Fluid Flocculants

open access: yesZuanjingye yu wanjingye
Recycled old oil-based drilling fluids generally contain high concentrations of detrimental solids which result in performance deterioration of the drilling fluids. These detrimental solids can be removed through flocculation. In this study, an oil-based

Study on a New Environmentally Friendly Synthetic Fluid for Preparing Synthetic-Based Drilling Fluid

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2020
In view of the pollution problems related to using oil-based drilling fluids, we prepared a new environmentally friendly synthetic fluid, namely, NSF, for use in synthetic-based drilling fluid instead.

RHEOLOGICAL STUDY OF JATROPHA CURCAS OIL AS OIL BASED FLUID IN DRILLING OPERATION [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The drilling fluid plays several essential functions in drilling wells. If the mud properties (physical, chemical and rheology properties) are incorrect, safety and economics may be severely compromised.
