Experimental Studies on the Measurement of Oil-water Two-phase Flow

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007
Oil‐water two‐phase flow measurement was investigated with a Venturi meter and double‐U Coriolis meter in this work. Based on the Venturi differential pressure and the quality of two‐phase flow, a model for measuring oil‐water mass flow rate was developed, in which fluid asymmetry of oil‐water two‐phase flow was considered.

Stratified Oil-Water Two-Phases Flow of Subsea Pipeline

The Journal of Ocean, Mechanical and Aerospace -science and engineering- (JOMAse), 2014
Oil-water two-phase flow in 0.0254m horizontal pipe is simulated using FLUENT 6.2. The stratified flow regime is modeled using Volume of Fluid (VOF) with turbulent model RNG k-?. Grid independent study has been conducted to decide mesh size for solution accuracy and optimum computational cost.

Oil-Water Two-Phase Flows in Large-Diameter Pipelines

Journal of Energy Resources Technology, 2001
Two-phase oil-water flows in a 10-cm-dia horizontal pipe have been experimentally investigated to study the effect of surfactant on oil-water distributions. Results show that at input water cut of 20 percent and lower, the water layer velocity is lower than mixed layer velocity up to an input mixture velocity of 1.6 m/s.

Numerical and experimental analysis of ultrasound attenuation in oil-water two-phase flow

2017 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2017
Measuring the process parameters of multiphase flow has remained a widely discussed topic within the field of multiphase flow. The measurement of phase fraction of oil-water two-phase flow with ultrasound attenuation is very difficult due to the nonlinear response to the measuring parameters, and the main attenuation mechanisms are influenced by ...

Velocity measurement of oil-water two-phase flow based on Ultrasonic Doppler

2017 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2017
For the overall superficial velocity measurement of oil-water two-phase flow in horizontal pipeline, using Continuous Wave Ultrasonic Doppler (CWUD) technique, a calculation model considering the influence of holdup distribution is proposed. A CWUD system is composed of a pair of piezoelectric ceramic ultrasonic transducers with center frequency of ...

Two-Phase Flows (Oil/Water): Flow Regimes and Wetting

2002
We report experimental investigations on the flow regimes obtained in a two-phase flow of two immiscible fluids in a micro-channel. It is shown that the wetting properties crucially control the regimes: when one phase completely wets channel walls, ordered patterns are obtained, while, disordered patterns are produced when wetting is partial.

A Model for Temperature Prediction for Two-Phase Oil/Water Stratified Flow

Journal of Energy Resources Technology, 2013
In this paper a mathematical model was developed to predict temperature profiles for two-phase oil-water stratified flows. Based on the energy balance of a control volume, analytical solutions were derived for the prediction of temperature profiles for two-phase oil/water stratified flow pattern in pipe flows.

Experimental study of oil–water two-phase flow in a capillary model

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2013
Abstract The flow and mobilization of an oil slug surrounded by water in a unique capillary tube model is experimentally investigated in this research. A single oil slug with different lengths is mobilized under stationary conditions. It is found in the investigation that the development of a water film between the tube wall and the oil slug is ...

Water layer height measurement in oil-water two-phase flows

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012
Water layer height was measured by a single-wire capacitance probe in horizontal oil-water two-phase flows. The viscosity of oil was up to 140 mPa·s to simulate the actual flow in oil production logging. Typical water-layer-height curves with time were obtained when water was continuous. The accuracy was estimated by a quick-closing valve (QCV) system.
