Development and characterization of a surfactant responsive to redox conditions for gas recovery in foam drainage

open access: yesScientific Reports
To address the challenge of reusing foaming agents in foam drainage gas production processes, we developed a redox-responsive surfactant with a straightforward preparation method based on molecular electrostatic interaction assembly.

Smallholder oil palm value chain in Cameroon: A case study from the department of Sanaga-Maritime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Cameroon has been producing palm oil for centuries but industrial scale production started around 1907 under the German colonisation with the development of estates and mills around the Littoral region (Sanaga-Maritime).

Electric-field induced capillary interaction of charged particles at a polar interface

open access: yes, 2004
We study the electric-field induced capillary interaction of charged particles at a polar interface. The algebraic tails of the electrostatic pressure of each charge results in a deformation of the interface $u\sim \rho ^{-4}$.

Positive‐Tone Nanolithography of Antimony Trisulfide with Femtosecond Laser Wet‐Etching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A butyldithiocarbamic acid (BDCA) etchant is used to fabricate various micro‐ and nanoscale structures on amorphous antimony trisulfide (a‐Sb2S3) thin film via femtosecond laser etching. Numerical analysis and experimental results elucidate the patterning mechanism on gold (reflective) and quartz (transmissive) substrates.

Fingering to fracturing transition in a transient gel

open access: yes, 2013
Fracture processes are ubiquitous in soft materials, even in complex fluids, subjected to stresses. To investigate these processes in a simple geometry, we use a model self-assembled transient gel and study the instability patterns obtained in a radial ...

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

Spiral Slip Structural Design for Ultra-Small Diameter Dissolvable Bridge Plug in Hydraulic Fracturing of Casing Deformation Wells

open access: yesShiyou jixie
As shale gas exploration and development in the Sichuan Basin progressively advances into deeper formations, the formation temperature and pressure become higher, the horizontal sections grow longer, and the operational pressures increase significantly ...

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Numerical Simulation Study on Optimization of Multiparameter Combination for Horizontal Well Fracturing in Nonhomogeneous Conglomerate Reservoirs

open access: yesGeofluids
Optimizing multicluster fracturing designs in heterogeneous conglomerate reservoirs is critical due to their complex characteristics. This study employs the continuous–discontinuous element method (CDEM) to conduct engineering-scale 3D simulations using ...
