Brazilian Oil Fields and Oil-Shale Reserves

The Maranhao Basin is being intensively investigated by the Conselho Nacional do Petroleo. In Sergipe, geophysical parties are working, and a test well was recently spudded.

A TYPE of agglomeration peculiar to any petroleum producing area is the oil field camp. Many of the producing oil fields of the world, and particularly those of the Mid-Continent area, were discovered in regions of sparse to moderate settlement. In such areas, when oil is discovered, there is no place to house the incoming population.

The Oxnard oil field is a minor southern Ventura Basin field situated on the west flank of the southwesterly plunging Semi-Las Posas trend. The field consists of two pools, a shallow tar zone discovered in 1936 and the deeper Sespe pool discovered in 1952.
