Fiber Bragg Grating-Based Oil-Film Pressure Measurement in Journal Bearings

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2019
The on-line measurement of oil-film pressure inside a journal bearing based on an optical fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed and described for the first time. Two methods are described, one includes inserting the packaged FBG into the bearing using rubber and the other is involved the packaged FBG being directly embedded on the bearing surface.

Disjoining Pressure Isotherms for Oil−Water−Oil Emulsion Films

Langmuir, 1997
We have used a novel liquid surface forces apparatus (LSFA) to determine the variation of disjoining pressure with film thickness for dodecane−water−dodecane emulsion films. The LSFA allows measurement of film thicknesses in the range 5−100 nm and disjoining pressure from 0 to 1500 Pa. Disjoining pressure isotherms are given for films stabilized by the

Measurement of Oil Film Pressure in Piston Pin-Boss by Thin-Film Pressure Sensor

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2015

1
Piston design approach for automotive engines has been advanced from both experimental and calculation analysis. However, the developments of experimental analysis method that can verify the accuracy of the calculation analysis are required.

Rheology of Oil Films at High Contact Pressures

Nature, 1972
WE report here a new approach to studying the shear behaviour of thin films of oil under conditions of elastohydrodynamic lubrication such as arise at points of contact in ball bearings or between gear teeth. During its passage through the contact the oil is rapidly compressed to pressures in the region of 104 bar and then sheared by the sliding motion

Pressure Distribution in Oil Films of Journal Bearings

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1932
Abstract One fact which is becoming widely recognized by users of journal bearings is that under proper conditions of operation the load applied to a journal bearing is supported by the hydrostatic pressures built up in a film of lubricant wedged between and completely separating the journal and bearing.

Applications of automatic control to pressurized oil film bearings

Wear, 1962
Expressions for the load-carrying capacity, stiffness and damping rate of pressurized oil film bearings are derived and expressed in terms of the variables available to the designer By adding a simple automatic flow valve, operated by pressure feed-back, the pressurized oil film exhibits infinite stiffness to steady normal loads.

Lubrication at Extreme Pressures with Mineral Oil Films

Journal of Applied Physics, 1951
Intact mineral oil films at average pressures ranging from 86,000 to 215,000 psi and at high rates of shear have been obtained using a bearing consisting of the contact area between crossed axis steel cylinders. Intact films have also been maintained at low rates of shear and lower pressures using a bearing consisting of a sphere in a spherical shell ...

Study on Oil Film and Pressure Distribution of Micro-EHL

Journal of Tribology, 1992
Micro-EHL problems of line contact have been solved by Newton-Raphson method. The results are given from the zero roughness amplitude to the value higher than the film thickness in the smooth surface solution. With the increase of the roughness amplitude, cavitations may be found inside the contact region.
