Adaptation of a modern medium helicopter (Sikorsky S-76) to higher harmonic control [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Sikorsky Aircraft has performed analytical studies, design analyses, and risk reduction tests have been performed for Higher Harmonic Control (HHC) on the S-76. The S-76 is an 8 to 10,000 lb helicopter which cruises at 145 kts.

A rock brittleness index based on the postpeak energy release rate and damage surface characteristics for brittle hard rock

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study examines energy evolution in rock rupture via triaxial direct shear tests, exploring the impact of confining pressure and temperature on fracture surface randomness. A novel energy‐based brittleness index is proposed, validated experimentally, and compared with existing methods for reliability and accuracy.

The Real Time Display Builder (RTDB) [PDF]

open access: yes
The Real Time Display Builder (RTDB) is a prototype interactive graphics tool that builds logic-driven displays. These displays reflect current system status, implement fault detection algorithms in real time, and incorporate the operational knowledge of

The potential significance of micro hydro systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Thus we see that for Bangladesh, SHP plants have a lot to offer by way of low-cost energy, irrigation and flood control. Additionally, these resources will be provided with no environmental costs incurred.

Surface hydration‐induced damage in tight oil‐bearing sandy conglomerate reservoirs

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A series of techniques such as X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive spectroscopy, conductivity tests, and infrared thermal imaging were used. The key findings are the identification of a two‐stage surface hydration process and the elucidation of the effects of various minerals and elements on the hydration process ...

The impact of forced closure on proppant distribution of hydraulic fracturing in shale formations

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Research findings demonstrate that implementing forced closure within shale formations can remarkably mitigate proppant settlement, concurrently increasing the effective propped surface area from 29.74% to 38.68%. Abstract Forced closure is widely used in conventional oil and gas reservoirs to promote uniform proppant placement.

Fracture evolution of a thick soft protection layer and the water inrush mechanism in overburden under longwall mining

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Through shear–tensile creep tests and viscoelastic modeling, the fracture evolution of thick soft protective layers is clarified. Results show thickness‐dependent rheological failure modes that govern four types of roof water inrush, providing a mechanism‐based framework for hazard prediction and control. Abstract In the Jurassic coal‐bearing strata of

Numerical Simulation of the Simultaneous Development of Multiple Fractures in Horizontal Wells Based on the Extended Finite Element Method

open access: yesEnergies
Simultaneous multiple-fracture treatments in horizontal wellbores have become an essential technology for the economic development of shale gas reservoirs. During hydraulic fracturing, fracture initiation and propagation always induce additional stresses
