Convection heat transfer and temperature analysis of oil jet lubricated spur gears

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 2016
Purpose This paper aims to provide an analytic technique for determining the convection heat transfer and temperature of oil jet lubricated spur gears. Design/methodology/approach A multiphase flow model is developed to calculate the convection heat transfer coefficients on different gear faces during different contact conditions.

Numerical investigation of the air–oil two-phase flow inside an oil-jet lubricated ball bearing

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2014
Abstract The air–oil two-phase flow inside an oil-jet lubricated ball bearing was investigated by the CFD method. The VOF method for multiphase flow was used to track the air–oil two-phase flow. The sliding mesh plane was applied between the flow field inside the bearing and the flow field on both outsides of the bearing. The results suggest that the

Comparison of the Constituents of Two Jet Engine Lubricating Oils and Their Volatile Pyrolytic Degradation Products

Applied Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, 2000
Leaking oil seals in jet engines, at locations prior to the compressor stage, can be a cause of smoke in the cabins of BAe-146 aircraft. Compressed combustion air is bled off to pressurize the cabin and to provide a source of fresh air. Bleed air is diverted from a location just prior to the combustion chamber at a temperature around 500 degrees C.

Influence of spin flow on lubricating oil jet—Design method of oil spray parameters to high speed spur gears

Tribology International, 2015
Abstract As the gear speed becomes higher and higher in modern industry the influence of spin flow on lubricating oil jet must be taken into account in design of gearings. A multiphase flow model is established in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to calculate the regimes of oil jet in spin flow.

Influence of temperature on dynamic contact characteristics of oil-jet lubricated rolling bearings

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part K: Journal of Multi-body Dynamics
The temperature variation alters the contact state of each component during the operating process of oil-jet lubricated rolling bearings, which directly affects the dynamic performance of the bearing. However, previous studies on the dynamics of oil-jet lubricated rolling bearings do not comprehensively consider the influence of temperature factors ...

Experimental Investigation on Power Losses due to Oil Jet Lubrication in High Speed Gearing Systems

Volume 5B: Heat Transfer, 2017
In order to reduce environmental and climate impact from air traffic, the main effort of aero-engine industry and research community is looking at a continuous increase in gearbox efficiency. With this kind of components every source of loss can be responsible for high heat loads; for this reason oil jet systems are used to provide proper cooling and ...

Analyses on the Splashing Parameters of High-Speed Oil Impacted a Wall in Jet Lubrications

2009
A new model for the free jet breakup is derived from the TAB theory to determine the size of breakup in the energy conservation law. In addition, the splash behavior of droplets after impingement is determined by the newly proposed model, which incorporates both the size and the number models based on Wu Ziniu’s phenomenological theory.
