Human Intoxication Following Inhalation Exposure to Synthetic Jet Lubricating Oil

Clinical Toxicology, 1977
A previously healthy member of an aircraft flight crew was acutely incapacitated during flight with neurologic impairment and gastrointestinal distress. His clinical status returned to normal within 24 hr. The etiology of his symptoms was related to an inhalation exposure to aerosolized or vaporized synthetic lubricating oil arising from a jet engine ...

The Numerical Study of Oil Drop Jet from Oil-Air Lubrication Nozzle

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Nozzle is an important part of oil-air lubrication system. This paper uses Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software FLUENT to study the flow field of oil air, and different air pressure and nozzle throat size are discussed. The results show that: When air pressure is increased from 0.05Mpa to 0.1Mpa, the maximum diameter (2mm) percentage reduces ...

CFD investigation on the influence of jet velocity of oil-jet lubricated ball bearing on the characteristics of lubrication flow field

2015 International Conference on Fluid Power and Mechatronics (FPM), 2015
Oil-jet lubrication which is widely applied in aero engine, turbo machinery, high power transmission system is one of the most common form of the high speed bearing lubrication. The complex oil-air two-phase flow will exist in the cavity of the oil-jet lubricated high speed rolling bearing because of the stirring of the rolling elements and the cage ...

Elemental analysis of jet engine lubrication oil and jet fuel using in-air PIXE

International Journal of PIXE, 2018
To understand the elemental characteristics of the exhaust particles from a jet aircraft, we performed an element analysis using an in-air PIXE system of the different lubrication oils of a jet engine (Mobil Jet Oil II, Mobil Jet Oil 254 and Eastman Turbo Oil 2380) and the jet fuel (JET A-1) to determine the effects on the exhaust particles.

Optimized design of spray parameters of oil jet lubricated spur gears

Tribology International, 2018
Abstract The lubrication process in jet lubrication is significantly influenced by different spray parameters under different injection conditions. The computational fluid dynamics model of the jet lubrication process is established. The jet lubrication process is evaluated with different spray parameters, including the spray angle, position, and ...

Comparison of the Constituents of Two Jet Engine Lubricating Oils and Their Volatile Pyrolytic Degradation Products

Applied Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, 2000
Leaking oil seals in jet engines, at locations prior to the compressor stage, can be a cause of smoke in the cabins of BAe-146 aircraft. Compressed combustion air is bled off to pressurize the cabin and to provide a source of fresh air. Bleed air is diverted from a location just prior to the combustion chamber at a temperature around 500 degrees C.

Temperature measurement and error analysis of the transverse plane of oil-jet-lubrication herringbone gear with infrared pyrometers

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2023
Frictional power losses of high-speed and heavy-load herringbone gearboxes increase the temperature of the gearbox. Thus, real-time surface temperature measurement is significant for evaluating the gearbox lubrication design. A rotating gear test rig with an infrared pyrometer is developed in this paper to conduct real-time and accurate temperature ...

Comparison Between Oil-Mist and Oil-Jet Lubrication of High-Speed, Small-Bore, Angular-Contact Ball Bearings [PDF]

open access: yesTribology Transactions, 2001
Parametric tests were conducted with an optimized 35-mm-bore-angular-contact ball bearing on a high-speed, high-temperature bearing tester. Results from both air-oil mist lubrication and oil-jet lubrication systems used to lubricate the bearing were compared to speeds of 2.5¥106 DN.

Convection heat transfer and temperature analysis of oil jet lubricated spur gears

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 2016
Purpose This paper aims to provide an analytic technique for determining the convection heat transfer and temperature of oil jet lubricated spur gears. Design/methodology/approach A multiphase flow model is developed to calculate the convection heat transfer coefficients on different gear faces during different contact conditions.

Numerical investigation of the air–oil two-phase flow inside an oil-jet lubricated ball bearing

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2014
Abstract The air–oil two-phase flow inside an oil-jet lubricated ball bearing was investigated by the CFD method. The VOF method for multiphase flow was used to track the air–oil two-phase flow. The sliding mesh plane was applied between the flow field inside the bearing and the flow field on both outsides of the bearing. The results suggest that the
