Selecting Hydrogel Films Composed of Carboxymethyl Cellulose and Microcrystalline Cellulose From OPEFB With Citric Acid as a Green Crosslinker for Fruit Wrapping

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biomaterials, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Cellulose‐based hydrogel films are promising alternatives to plastic for wrapping. Hydrogel films based on carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) must exhibit high mechanical strength and be capable of absorbing moisture. Crosslinking increases the absorption capacity and mechanical strength of hydrogel films.

Solvent‐Mediated Control of Ethanolysis Pathways: Dimethyl Carbonate–Assisted Conversion of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches to Ethyl Levulinate

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study investigates dimethyl carbonate (DMC) as a polar aprotic cosolvent in the direct ethanolysis of oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) to produce ethyl levulinate. Among several tested cosolvents, DMC significantly improved selectivity and suppressed humin formation, thereby increasing ethyl levulinate yield from 18.69% to 24.49% under ...
