Recovery rates, enhanced oil recovery and technological limits [PDF]
Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques can significantly extend global oil reserves once oil prices are high enough to make these techniques economic. Given a broad consensus that we have entered a period of supply constraints, operators can at last plan on the assumption that the oil price is likely to remain relatively high.

Use of Soluble Oils for Oil Recovery
Journal of Petroleum Technology, 1971A method involving the use of soluble oils can substantially reduce the oil saturation in a reservoir below, that obtainable by waterflooding. The soluble oil, which consists essentially of hydrocarbon, surfactant, and a stabilizing agent, will spontaneously emulsify with water.

AbstractThe extraction of oil from oil reservoirs beneath the North Sea has stimulated an immense popular interest in oil exploration and production. The mass media cover many of the sensational aspects of the industry but the mechanisms of the production of oil from the reservoir are not often mentioned.

AbstractThere is estimated to be about 250 billion barrels of oil in this country that are currently deemed economically unrecoverable. With conventional recovery techniques it is possible to recover about 47% of the estimated total oil in place, and steady improvement in technology may eventually bring crude oil recovery up to 65% of the oil in place.
