Zero‐Power, Optical Toxic Gas and Vapor Sensors Utilizing Printed Nematic Liquid Crystal Patterns on Selectively Reactive Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, EarlyView.
Fast response, zero‐power, text or image sensors utilizing light transmission or reflection, and no unfavorable color change judgments, are fabricated using printed nematic liquid crystals patterned on reactive alignment layers, permit ppt‐ to ppb‐level sensitivity, and were field‐tested with active firefighters.

Flow physics of planar bistable fluidic oscillator with backflow limbs

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 69, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Fluidic oscillators (FOs) are used in a variety of applications, including process control and process intensification. Despite the simple design and operation of FOs, the fluid dynamics of FOs exhibit rich complexities. The inherently unstable flow, jet oscillations, and resulting vortices influence mixing and other transport processes.

On the Pricing of Storable Commodities [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
This paper introduces an information-based model for the pricing of storable commodities such as crude oil and natural gas. The model uses the concept of market information about future supply and demand as a basis for valuation. Physical ownership of a commodity is taken to provide a stream of convenience dividends equivalent to a continuous cash flow.

Coupling hydrothermal liquefaction and aqueous phase reforming for integrated production of biocrude and renewable H2

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 69, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Lignin‐rich stream from lignocellulosic ethanol production was converted into biocrude by continuous hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) while hydrogen was produced by aqueous phase reforming (APR) of the HTL aqueous by‐product. The effects of Na2CO3 and NaOH were investigated both in terms of processability of the feedstock as well as yield and ...

Knowledge-Assisted Dual-Stage Evolutionary Optimization of Large-Scale Crude Oil Scheduling [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
With the scaling up of crude oil scheduling in modern refineries, large-scale crude oil scheduling problems (LSCOSPs) emerge with thousands of binary variables and non-linear constraints, which are challenging to be optimized by traditional optimization methods.

Cleaning Schedule Optimization of Heat Exchanger Networks Using Particle Swarm Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Oil refinery is one of industries that require huge energy consumption. The today technology advance requires energy saving. Heat integration is a method used to minimize the energy comsumption though the implementation of Heat Exchanger Network (HEN). CPT is one of types of Heat Exchanger Network (HEN) that functions to recover the heat in the flow of
