Fracking, wars and stock market crashes. The price of oil during the great recession. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This study analyses how oil prices have been affected by three types of events that took place during the Great Recession: the development of fracking, wars in Libya, Syria and Ukraine and the stock market crash of 2008.

MagPiezo: A Magnetogenetic Platform for Remote Activation of Endogenous Piezo1 Channels in Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MagPiezo enables wireless activation of endogenous Piezo1 channels without genetic modification using 19 nm magnetic nanoparticles and low‐intensity magnetic fields. It generates torque forces at the piconewton scale to trigger mechanotransduction in endothelial cells, standing as a novel platform to interrogate and manipulate Piezo1 activity in vitro.

A Novel Model for Evaluating the Natural Antioxidant Carnosic Acid to Improve the Stability of Rapeseed Oil in the Thermal Degradation

open access: yesAntioxidants
The quality and stability of oil during thermal processing reflect the reactions in vegetable oil. The deterioration of the oil is close to the viscosity, fatty acid composition (FA), total polar compounds (TPC), etc.

The dependence of the potential sustainability of a resource economy on the initial state: a comparison of models using the example of Russian oil extraction [PDF]

open access: yes
The studies of the International Monetary Fund offer a model for recommending sustainable budget policy to oil-exporting countries including Russia. The model does not contain any resource as a factor of production and assumes that Russian oil reserves ...

4D‐Printed Magneto‐Plasmonic Microrobots for Programmable Spatiotemporal De‐Icing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 4D‐printing strategy is introduced to achieve programmable de‐icing devices. By aligning gold–magnetite nanofillers within a photosensitive resin, the printed structures exhibit dual magnetic and plasmonic functionalities, enabling precise spatio‐temporal ice removal through thermoplasmonic effects.

An economic model of oil reserves additions: Application to US data

open access: yes, 1998
Departing from Hotelling's assumption of fixed and known reserves, in this paper I develop an economic model of additions to proven reserves that explicitly incorporates the effects of expected resource price, cumulative reserves development, and ...

Breakthrough renewables and the green paradox [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We show how a monopolistic owner of oil reserves responds to a carbon-free substitute becoming available at some uncertain point in the future if demand is isoelastic and variable extraction costs are zero but upfront exploration investment costs have to

Polymer Infiltration Into SURMOF Channels Enables Hydrophobic and Solid‐Like Slippery Functional Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report a polymer‐chain insertion strategy to fabricate pore‐threaded MOF thin films with precisely tuned surface chemistry and wettability. Grafting n‐alkane chains into the pillared layer Cu2(bdc)2(dabco) MOF thin film's vertical nanochannels enhances water stability, and induces hydrophobicity and lubricant‐free, solid‐like slippery behavior ...

Whole Grain Food Standard System Construction Status and Development Direction

open access: yesLiang you shipin ke-ji
Existing studies have clearly demonstrated that people eating more whole grains have reduced risks of many chronic metabolic diseases compared to those eating less.

Mechanochromism of Glassy Polymers Enabled by a Loop‐Forming Supramolecular Mechanophore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The supramolecular mechanophore LOOP is covalently introduced into glassy polymers, capable of reporting force‐induced pre‐failure damage and local fracture events in polymer glasses. Under different mechanical deformation modes, including grinding, tensile stretching, and scratching, LOOP probes irreversible events in polymer glasses through a ...
