OIL SPILL DETECTION WITH REMOTE SENSORS
Proceedings of the 19th Conference for Junior Researchers „Science – Future of Lithuania“, 2016Accurate detection and forecasting of oil spills and their trajectories is beneficial for monitoring and conservation of the marine environment. The most common techniques of oil spill tracking are remote sensing from an aircraft and satellites.

Laser radar for remote detection of oil spills
Applied Optics, 1978A laser radar system that is capable of remotely detecting oil spills, in the daytime and at night, in sea water has been developed. The system employs the second harmonic and fourth harmonic of a repetitively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser as the light sources and a gated optical multichannel analyzer as a high speed detection device.

Oil spill detection using marine SAR images
International Journal of Remote Sensing, 2000A probabilistic approach to distinguish oil spills from other similar oceanic features in marine Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images has been developed and tested. The method uses statistical information obtained from previous mesurements of physical and geometrical characteristics for both oil spill and natural features.

Oil spills detection on different underlying surfaces
SPIE Proceedings, 2012Oil spills detection algorithm for different underlying surfaces was developed. It was shown, that in order to detect oil spills with high probability of correct detection and low probability of false alarm it wasn’t enough to use correlation analysis only.

Oil spill detection from polarimetric SAR image
IEEE 10th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SIGNAL PROCESSING PROCEEDINGS, 2010A new combined feature is proposed based on polarimetric features extraction. Moreover, a new oil spills detection method is developed based on the combined feature and max entropy segmentation. The application to NASA/JPL SIR-C data shows that the new combined feature and detection method are effective to oil spills detection.

Oil spill detection using hyperspectral infrared camera
SPIE Proceedings, 2017Oil spill pollution is a severe environmental problem that persists in the marine environment and in inland water systems around the world. Remote sensing is an important part of oil spill response. The hyperspectral images can not only provide the space information but also the spectral information.

Machine Learning Approach to Oil Spill Detection
SPE Nigeria Annual International Conference and ExhibitionAbstract In recent years, environmental scientists committed to safeguarding the planet have prioritized the detection and monitoring of oil spills in marine waters, a focus expected to persist. Rapid identification of oil spill incidents on the water's surface is crucial for timely monitoring and cleanup efforts, especially to protect ...

Oil spill detection using GLCM and MRF
Proceedings. 2005 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2005. IGARSS '05., 2005This paper presents a study for oil spill detection in three steps. The first one considers the texture as a two dimensions array, and to describe the statistics iteration between pixels the algorithm computes a textural feature related with the Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM).

SAR images thresholding for oil spill detection
2013 Saudi International Electronics, Communications and Photonics Conference, 2013This paper presents a new algorithm for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images segmentation based on thresholding technique for oil spill detection. Generally, segmentation of a SAR image falls into two categories; one based on grey levels and the other based on texture. The present paper deals with SAR images segmentation based on grey levels.
