Pollution havens versus gates of hell: Environmental pollution and multinationals' foreign investment

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary This study investigates an under‐explored cost of operating in pollution havens: the pollution‐induced operational cost, or the increased labor costs and material supply constraints resulting from host countries' environmental pollution.

Topography‐Free Dual‐Lubricant Patterned Slippery Surfaces for Programmable Droplet Control and High‐Performance Water Harvesting

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A patterned dual‐lubricant SLIPS creates interfacial energy asymmetry, guiding droplet migration without external actuation. Condensed droplets formed on the fluorinated‐oil‐infused regions migrate to the silicone‐oil‐infused domains, where rapid growth and coalescence occur.

Multifunctional Superwetting Sea‐Urchin‐Mimetic Nanosheet‐Based Interface for Remote Oil‐Water Separation

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A fluorine‐free, FBC–rGO coating‐based robust superhydrophobic/superoleophilic sorbent (WCA >154°), enabling rapid, selective oil uptake and efficient oil/water separation. Integrated into a dolphin‐inspired Wi‐Fi mini‐bot with onboard pumping and storage, the platform enables remote, contactless, on‐site oil recovery from hazardous spill zones ...

How PNIPAM Microgel Architecture Controls Pickering Foam Formation

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Foams were generated by bubbling air into dispersions of PNIPAM microgels. We show that microgels with a more pronounced core‐shell architecture exhibit higher foamability: larger volume of foams, with smaller bubbles and a higher liquid fraction are produced.

Cement Lines are Stiffer and Harder than Bone but Exhibit Different Mineral–Mechanics Relationships due to Thicker and Shorter Mineral Particles

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
Bone's complex hierarchical structure contains many internal interfaces, including the cement line (CL) around osteons. This article shows that the CL is stiffer and harder than surrounding bone but has different mineral–mechanics relationships. These findings challenge the view of the CL as a soft, protective interface and provide insights for ...
