Oil spill detection using GLCM and MRF

Proceedings. 2005 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2005. IGARSS '05., 2005
This paper presents a study for oil spill detection in three steps. The first one considers the texture as a two dimensions array, and to describe the statistics iteration between pixels the algorithm computes a textural feature related with the Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM).

Laser radar for remote detection of oil spills

Applied Optics, 1978
A laser radar system that is capable of remotely detecting oil spills, in the daytime and at night, in sea water has been developed. The system employs the second harmonic and fourth harmonic of a repetitively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser as the light sources and a gated optical multichannel analyzer as a high speed detection device.

Research on polarization of oil spill and detection

Acta Oceanologica Sinica, 2016
The SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) has the capabilities for all-weather day and night use. In the case of determining the effects of oil spill dumping, the oil spills areas are shown as dark spots in the SAR images. Therefore, using SAR data to detect oil spills is becoming progressively popular in operational monitoring, which is useful for oceanic ...

Oil spill detection in SAR imagery

Proceedings of IGARSS '93 - IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2002
The possibilities for automatic segmentation of oil slicks and oil slick look-alikes in ERS-1 SAR imagery is investigated. "Spots" in the images are detected using adaptive thresholding and statistical classification of oil slick candidates is performed using geometric properties and gradient-based features. Promising results are shown, but the methods

OIL SPILL DETECTION WITH REMOTE SENSORS

Proceedings of the 19th Conference for Junior Researchers „Science – Future of Lithuania“, 2016
Accurate detection and forecasting of oil spills and their trajectories is beneficial for monitoring and conservation of the marine environment. The most common techniques of oil spill tracking are remote sensing from an aircraft and satellites.

Oil spill detection technology for early warning spill prevention

OCEANS 2009, 2009
This paper discusses the development of an oil spill detection and alarm system that provides the marine industry with a reliable, cost-saving mechanism for containing and/or preventing accidental discharges of hydrocarbon-based pollutants. By utilizing an automated spill detection system, hydrocarbon releases are detected in real-time [analogous to a “

Detection of oil spills by airborne sensors

2006
Aerial surveillance of marine oil spills has become a multinational effort, especially for the deterrence of potential polluters and support of oil spill clean-up crews. For many years, the main effort has been directed towards developing sensors with enhanced spill monitoring capabilities.

Developing a Comprehensive Oil Spill Detection Model for Marine Environments

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Detecting oil spills in marine environments is crucial for avoiding environmental damage and facilitating rapid response efforts. In this study, we propose a robust method for oil spill detection leveraging state-of-the-art (SOTA) deep learning ...

Automatic detection of oil spills in ERS SAR images

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1999
The authors present algorithms for the automatic detection of oil spills in SAR images. The developed framework consists of first detecting dark spots in the image, then computing a set of features for each dark spot, before the spot is classified as either an oil slick or a "lookalike" (other oceanographic phenomena which resemble oil slicks).

Field performance of a laser fluorosensor for the detection of oil spills

Applied Optics, 1980
An airborne laser fluorosensor is described that was designed to detect and identify targets by means of the characteristic fluorescence emission spectrum. The first field trials of the sensor over marine oil and dye spills are reported. A correlation technique has been developed that, when applied to the data collected during these field trials ...
