On tectonic problems of the Okinawa Trough
Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, 2001The Okinawa Trough is a very active tectonic zone at the margin of the Northwest Pacific and is typical of back-are-rifting at the young stage of tectonic evolution. Many scientists from Japan, China, Germany, France, the U.S.A. and Russia have done a lot of geologic and geophysical investigations there.

Black Ore Cultivation Program in the Okinawa Trough
Offshore Technology Conference, 2014JAMSTEC has an international patent for the environmentally-friendly cultivation system of hydrothermal chimney as the accessory product of scientific drilling program in the Okinawa Trough. We introduce the characteristics of natural and artificial hydrothermal vents in the Okinawa Trough, how this field was developed with special devices in the IODP ...

Origin and model of transform faults in the Okinawa Trough
Marine Geophysical Research, 2017Transform faults in back-arc basins are the key to revealing the opening and development of marginal seas. The Okinawa Trough (OT) represents an incipient and active back-arc or marginal sea basin oriented in a general NE-SW direction. To determine the strikes and spatial distribution of transform faults in the OT, this paper dissects the NW- and NNE ...

Okinawa Trough: Origin of a back-arc basin
Marine Geology, 1980Abstract The sequence of back-arc basin development in the southwestern part of Okinawa Trough has apparently been crustal thinning, involving normal faulting and fault block rotation, rifting, and crustal separation with associated magmatic intrusion.

Basic geochemical characteristics of sediments in the Okinawa trough
Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, 1986A total of 21 elements, Si, Al, K, Na, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Ti, P, Cu, Co, Ni, Zn, Pb, Cr, Rb, Sr Ba, Cd and Corg(organic carbon), was determined in the trough. Average contents of most elements were found to be higher in the trough bottom than in the western and eastern slopes.

Sea of Japan and Okinawa Trough
1985The northeastern margin of the Asiatic continent is fringed by trench—arc—back-arc systems. Best known is a system consisting of the Japan Trench—Nankai Trough, Japanese island arcs, and the Sea of Japan. The Sea of Japan is, as a whole, a marginal sea with an area of about 1 million km2, bounded on the north by Sikhote Alin eastern Siberia, on the ...

Monoterpinenes as terrigenous markers in Okinawa Trough sediments
Geochemistry, 1984Monoterpinenes were isolated from Okinawa Trough sediments at the 1000-m water depth by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and identified by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-data system (GC-MS-DS). Identification has revealed cyclohexene, 1-methyl-5-(1-methylethenyl), cyclohexene, 1-methyl-3-(1-methylethenyl), and ...

The geological nature and geodynamics of the Okinawa Trough, Western Pacific
Geological Journal, 2016AbstractThere is a continuing hot debate on whether the geodynamics in the West Pacific indicate either a marginal basin or back‐arc basin, since the nature, evolution and formation mechanism are not well known. Research on the Okinawa Trough (OT), which is an active back‐arc basin, has important scientific significance for discussing the opening and ...

Seismicity and stress field in Okinawa Trough and Ryukyu regions
Acta Seismologica Sinica, 1994According to the seismic data (m b≥5.0) from 1977 to 1991 and the focal mechanisms of 68 earthquakes from 1961 to 1991, the characters of seismicity and stress field in Okinawa Trough and Ryukyu regions are discussed in this paper, and the paper suggests that: 1) the Tokara Channel fault belt is a fault belt with seismicity, cutting through lithosphere.
